Featured Replies

i have a 51 plate octavia vrs that had been mapped, took it to a guy who remaps cars to read the ecu to see what it had done and now the car is running crap, cant here turbo, only revs to 5k then limiter cuts in,feels like a 1 litre corsa, the guy said all he done was read the ecu but the car was running perfect before he plugged his machine in,any one out there who can help as the guy said its nowt to do with him.thanks ste

Oooops. I would suggest you have someone with VCDS scan it for fault codes, this may give some indication as to what the cause of the problem/s is. Sounds as if it's in Limp Mode.

Do you have any more information about what the "mapper" did? or equipment used?

he said he only read the ecu to see what had been done, there are no warning lights on the dash ect, have a hand scanner a desent one and its not coming up with any faults, seems funny as the car was perfect now it is as slow as a pushbike, and the guy said its nothing to do with him.

Wherabouts in the country are you? There may be someone close to you who can plug VCDS in for you.

If he's only downloaded the map from the ecu then theirs no reason it would cause issues.

Yeah someone with vcds is what you need. Scan for faults and carry out some logging like the MAF sensor and turbo.

the car was running fine when i took it not any faults at all it just seems funny that since he plugged the machine in the car has lost all its power,i am in bolton near manchester if there is any one who could plug vcds in for me to check it.thanks ste

I'm in Merseyside and have vcds.

could you check it tonight and how much mate.ste

Open the bonnet and check that all 4 coil packs are sitting properly on the spark plugs.

checked the car all over and cant find any faults at all,its like there is no turbo on the car and never had a problem till the guy plugged his machine in it,i no he said he only read the ecu but its strange

Does seem very coincidental that he done something with your car and now it's not running right.

If something bad has happened to the map (whether stock or a remap was on there), your ECU may need flashing with the stock software again. I doubt it's that though from what you're describing.

If it feels like there is no turbo and you're not going over 5k revs, it sounds like possibly a breather hose has split (badly!).

As others have said, what you really need to do is get the car on VAG-COM, or at the very least a OBDII Code Reader (about £15 on eBay).

If there was a trial map on there and hes scanned what is the chances of that picking up? I have heard of trial maps screwing things up before hand. TBH, if he is a business then it should be cover under his insurance.

Yeah I think I'd be tempted to have a polite but 'firm' convo with the remapper, along the lines of "look mate, my car was fine before hand, then after you had it it's not running right at all. If you're not able to look at the car following this, I am going to have to claim under your liability insurance (if he has it!), or ring trading standards first thing in the morning".

It may not be his fault at all ......... but as a business he should be doing more than "nowt to do with me mate" ..... considering the co-incidence of him having your car, and it then not running right.

there car had a proper remap before i got it and had a few parts changed ie injectors ect and it cost £680.there are no split pipes ect checked it all over its like the car is running in limp mode,or just down on power bad to how it was running, the car was quick and it dont even feel like its running standed power,as i keep saying this only happed after he touched the car.

If it had a remap prior, why are you getting it remapped?

as i keep saying this only happed after he touched the car.

and as others keep saying, front him up about it and don't be fobbed off, or take it to an established VAG specialist and see what they have to say.

diagnostics by way of an internet forum can never be relied upon. no offence to anyone of 'superior knowledge' on here.

Met up with Steve. Did a full vcds scan. No faults at all on the ECU. Carried out a boost log and it's only requesting 0.3 bar. MAF peaks at 80g/s.

0-60 must be about 20 seconds :(

just went to see if the car had been mapped as got the recieps ect to say it had been remapped but it had other parts fitted so the guy said he could check it and see if it needed to be remapped because of the other parts fitted, did not think he could mess my car up.

tried to get hold of the guy be he is just blanking me out if he did not think it was his fault then why would he not answer my calls, will go to his place of work and ask him to check it,and if he says no then will have to make him see sense that it in his better for him to sort it.

Ste you'll probably find looking through the history that's it's s REVO remap. REVO disable reading via the obd port. If you contact your local REVO dealer or head office they should be able to sort you out with either fixing the map or putting it back to stock.

They should charge you around £25 for that, as long as there's a current REVO map (trial or full) on there...

how will i find out if its a revo map.

Contact revo or look at your paperwork.

Might have an original file. Let us know how you get on.

He has your file and is going to load it back on?

If he was doing a read of the ECU I wonder why he took a copy of it? Perhaps in case something like this happens! As to whether it works or not... Depends if he saved a copy before or after he did what ever it was that fudged it up!!
