Fabia saved my neck

Featured Replies

Driving back from the gym on Saturday I pulled up at the lights behind some guy in a Vauxhall Corsa, the lights went to green but he didn't move I gave him a few seconds as I usually do but the guy behind me beeped, this turned the guy in front of me into a raging monster, he thought I'd beeped him and gave me a load of hand gestures.

We all joined the slip road for the M40 and I overtook the Corsa as I joined the mway and again the Corsa driver was F'ing and blinding at me... WTF. I tried to point out it wasn't me that beeped him but gave up as I joined the motorway.

About a mile later this guy comes flying right up behind me about two inches from my bumper, again with a load of abuse motioning me to pull over.

I had two choices

1 - Pull over and argue (possibly fight it out).

2- Outrun him.

I took the second option and completely destroyed him accelerating away, I'm not one for speeding but I'd rather take this option over being hit or having my car hit, plus my wife was in the car. BTW I didn't hit stupid speeds as my mid range performance gave me such an advantage.

I really don't know why this guy flew into such a rage but I wasn't prepared to experience it. So thankyou to Skoda for helping out.

I have been in similar many a time and i chosse option 2

Not for the sissyness but just for the fact you never know what the other guy has. e.g. knife etc.

Would be interesting to get police views on this if you were caught speeding in the middle of this.

:) Maybe the corsa driver having taken the 5 minutes to get up to speed was upset at you now blocking his path :D

I do what you do, peg it away then once clear I'll find a lorry and park up in front of it let the other party go sailing past, be behind and not in front is my ultimate goal, if that fails and it rarely does I'll skip a junction, if they follow me off ramp it's time to engage concerned pants and nail it down the slip on the other side in search on a police car.

It's never nice when the assumption is it was you. Now the question is, did you have your sticker on show ;)

I skipped two junctions just in case.

My sticker is on the passenger side of my car but he didn't get a look as he was to busy hurling abuse.

Try driving in London your get used to it. I've been on the receiving end of road rage 3 times. 1st time I was only 20 and I had a 306. Guy behide me hit me up the rear. I got out say how the hell did you hit my car, to which I was told to get back in my car before he smashed my face in with his spanner  yes I shat myself! Coz I didn't move when the lights turned back to green he then hit me again up the rear. He got out of the car and came up to the window. I held up my phone with 999 on the display, to which he walk off back into his van. I never reported it because I was just too scared to. Ever since then I've always locked my doors which has probably saved me getting beaten up on the other times.

No easy way of dealing with it, best thing is to avoid make the situation worse, I'd agree I wouldn't pull over but I'd keep to the speed limit and where possible and if I knew the area head towards the police station. Failing that I'd call them on the mobile, of course using your hands free.

I guess you must be fairly shocked by it, people lose it for such little things now days, I myself have lost it but only when the other driver has nearly caused what would have been a nasty accident.

Lucky for you that you had SKODA POWER :D

I'm waiting for my sticker to get me found by the chav who I punched in the face yesterday.

Knob head - I took a nice crack in return so it wasn't all one sided.

I had this, coming up from Dover at about 2 am, as I joined the M25 a Granada coming round the M25 tried to force me onto the hard shoulder, I slowed and slowed hoping it was just an accidental thing ie he hadn't seen me when swapping lanes - nope for some reason he wanted me to stop  I got down to about 15 mph before I realised. I decided I didn't want to be there so I legged it. 8 - 10 miles down the road I got pulled over by a fully marked policecar for averaging 138 mph over that distance. :grumpy:

I explained what had happened. Luckilly they had seen it and had it on video. They wanted to check I was OK and I got told that I should not have tried to outrun the guy. I explained I'd do exactly the same if it ever happened again as there was no way I was going to find out why someone wanted to force me to stop in the middle of the night.

Result - I got a warning (of sorts) and was listed as a witness for when the guy went to court for dangerous driving. Wasn't called though as the video was evidence enough :D

I had a funny one last year when I had my Astra - a guy on a mpoed diddnt give way on a roundabout and nearly fell over trying to avoid me, he then chased after me. Its amazingly hard to loose a moped in heavy traffic!

I decided the best thing to do was to just go with the flow..... onto a motorway sliproad - followed by the moped! I dont know how far he got because I left him behind once I cold accelerate.

for averaging 138 mph over that distance. :grumpy:

Shouldn't the grumpy be a :D

Didn't one bloke recently try and get off a speeding thing by saying he was trying to outrun a UFO.( true story)

Maybe that was you shootin up behind him " it came out of nowhere officer " ;)

Some real b*stards about aren't there, don't understand the mentality of people like that, who chase and chase like that, obviously they are a completely different breed of person to the rest of us normal (ish) law-abiding (ish) citizens...

My best one was a bloke who got out of his car to have a go at me after I pulled into the right lane at an island because the queue was much shorter.

He started running after my car and chased me half way down the slip road onto the motorway :D

I had someone in a Corsa annoyed as he couldn't sneak infront of me when cones made a 2 lane road into 1. He just wasn't quick enough and yes, I was at speed limit. So he followed me, overtook me, pulled out a bar and nearly whacked my car whilst he was leaning out of the door! I had to overtake him as he had stopped. In hindsight I should've just reversed, but that didn't register at the time. I managed to give him the slip, but next night on way to work, I saw him again. This time I was filling up with fuel, he came over started f-ing and blinding etc, I just calmly said 'I have no idea what you mean'. He eventually walked off.

Was kinda lucky, twice. But that was in my Clio so I had no power to get away.

Valid enough reason then to buy a quick car :)

Someone once in Newcastle went into the right hand lane on the sliproad heading towards the roundabout, as you leave the central motorway heading south at the old Warner Brothers cinema roundabout. I always tend to drive fast off the line anyway, but this guy was in the wrong lane. I was in my Micra Sport+ which although not a quick car, was very quick up to 35, but this guy was in a 306 TD, which was probably quicker, but he was the loser of that battle!!

The thing is, we were both trying to go straight ahead and he was upset because he tried to push in and I didnt let him. This was a charming example of a human being, clearly enquiring as to whether I wanted a cup of coffee or not. Being sat in a traffic jam in Newcastle, I found it rather amusing that someone should think I'd be in the mood for a cuppa. So a hearty belly laugh erupted from my lungs, accompanied by a huge grin showing my pearly whites in the mirror at him, to let him know what a funny guy he is.

Unfortunately, he did not appreciate this compliment, so he got out of his car and started running towards my car, presumably to give me my cuppa. Luckily for me though, the traffic started moving significantly, a rarity for Newcastle these days, and I was allowed to drive off, waving goodbye as I left. Meanwhile, the rest of the cars behind him clearly didnt appreciate the parked 306 TD on the sliproad blocking their way, and preventing them from making it home on a sunny Friday evening, and demonstrated their irritation of the situation by greeting him with an ochestra of horns.

Clearly, he had anger issues

Had one a few years ago - I was following a line of slow traffic stuck behind a jcb on a winding road. I was on my first motorbike - a quick but not 'fast' 125. Anyway I filtered along the line of traffic and pulled in behind the car that was immediately behind the JCB. It was an Escort RS Turbo (say no more eh?). Anyway, he was struggling to get past so after a while I nipped past him and the JCB on a short straight. Now he did not like this one bit and he proceeded to chase me.

First he pulled to my right and tried to force me into the curb. I sped up and managed to nip past a car we were catching but he followed. We caught something else up and I was positioned on the white line down the middle of the road ready for another overtake. This was the scariest bit because he managed to get up the inside of me and was trying to force me into oncoming traffic. Now I am now thinking this guy is basically trying to kill me so all caution goes out of the window. I go for it, and have no doubt that I exceeded 90 odd mph in a 30.

I got far enough ahead, pulled in and hid. Few seconds later he flies past but I get his number, and later report him.

It was only after giving the police the story that I realised I had told them about the speed I'd been doing to get away but they thought under the circumstances I really had no choice. Thankfully they took the whole thing very seriously, and admitted it wasn't the first time he had been reported for doing the same thing. Unfortunately, I don't think there was much they could do, other than pay him a visit (again) and give him a serious talking to...which they did.

Still think about it occasionally and can't help wondering whether the bloke eventually got what he deserved... :whip: :nutkick: :smashfrea :amb:
