A trip down the A5 to see Ali and team today for 4yr Cambelt, waterpump and 60k service on the Roomster.

Great service and keenly priced as always.

Looking forward to the project Ali :giggle:

I am glad you are happy with service, my experience from 4 different garages in the area was bad enough to decide that I need to DIY everything I can. Think near-fire in engine bay and diesel fuel spraying all over engine and exhaust when I say bad enough experience :@ .

4yr cambelt? This is just VW UK invention to keep service depts busy, Skoda's very own instructions never mention replacing cambelt every 4 years, just replace at mileage. Same story with Fabias, Octavias, Yetis, Citigos, Roomsters,Praktiks and Superbs.

I actually replaced cambelts on my Octavia (1.9TDI) and Superb (2.5TDI V6), in both cases they were both at required mileage (80k on Octy back then, 73k on the Superb), and happened to be at 4 years, and in both cases the belts were in pristine condition, I would imagine if you drive far less (10k-15k per year), even 6 years on the belt should not be a problem. In fact, the V-belts (drivebelts) were in worse condition than the timing belts. But I guess to replace V-belt you can only charge 1/3rd or less of timing belt job money...

The book on my new Roomster says cam belt every 210 000km / 130k miles which was great news, at least there is one advantage to these new 1.6CR engines, and as usual no mention of year limit whatsoever. Older engines had shorter mileage, but no replacement time limit on the belt at all.
