Had my octy for 9 months and can honestly say its one of the best cars I've owned. Admittedly it's no performance car compared to previous cars I've had but with a baby on the way and practicality/cost being a consideration it's been brilliant.

Unfortunately the modification itch has struck! So looking for some advise/options.

Wheels - want to loose the standard Helios alloys as they look lost in the arches

Styling - going to jump on the plasti dip band wagen and de-chrome the grill. Also looking for options of lower grill as not having front fogs it looks a bit bland!

Performance - I know it's probably not worth doing anything but any suggestions would be good.

So basically looking for advise and options for wheels, styling and performance (if any)

Oh and welcome to Briskoda, what took you so long!!

If fogs are fitted don't they have to work for mot or is that just rear fogs?

Just rears.

My MOT tester has me sit in the car and operate the lights whilst he checks them, he said front fogs aren't tested, only the rear.

Thanks for the replies

Totally agree with the original alloy route. I've been looking at the Zeniths, also looking at other alloys from the VAG group.

How much of a pain would it be to get the ecu coded? The fitting, wiring, switch etc shouldn't be an issue.

Would it be a straight forward plug in a set the ecu to have front fogs?? (i'm new to all this electronics lark, all prev cars where very limited in that area)

Ha ha yeah, took me a while to get on here, but now I am there's no going back.

I did a quick forum search and found this post. Its for the facelift though so I'm not sure how different your pre-FL set-up will be:

I´m currently doing this upgrade to my own Octavia 2011. What you need is:

New lightswitch

New BCM (since the existing one does´nt have the pins to fit foglights. Check VCDS; must be a xxx085 in it now, you will need a xxx087)

Pair of foglights

Wiring for the foglights

Everything can be bought at Skodateile.cz fairly cheap, althoug I found a new BCM from a crashed Octavia very cheap.

You will also need VCDS to activate the foglights and code the new BCM. And then replace BCM, run wires for the foglights and one wire from the lightswitch to the BCM.

It sounds complicated, but it should´nt be. I did a lot of investigating, and now have the right numbers where to fit the wires to the BCM. Can post them here, if interested.
