hey im looking at buying one of these and having it remapped + maybe other mods as they seem to be a good buy ive had a few fast cars in the past and am just wondering how one would compare with the cars ive had they are:

Civic type r running 215 bhp

Toyota celica gt4 st205 running 260bhp

passat 1.8t tuned running 195bhp

Subaru impeza wagon classic running 205bhp

any help would is much appreciated

I was running a itg maxogen and straight through exhaust the civics do really well with breathing mods the lads who also run the kpro ecu would see 230 ish

Civic fwd no comparison

Gt4 will be a fair bit faster

Passat fwd but will have similare power so about the samé

Scooby perm 4wd more torque again about the samé

As I suggested on another thread, you're buying the wrong car mate, if you want that sort of power.

But best of luck ;)

A standard 4x4 will make around 200-210 with a decent remap and anything upto around 240. However you will need to spend thousands to get it to the level of all round performance of 3 of the 4 cars you list and a vRS or Audi S3 is a better bet as most of the initial bits you will want are standard fit.

thats kind of gutting to hear as they seem really good i pretty sure that 220bhp would make it a fast enough car im not looking for big big power as want to keep running cost down to a sensible level i sold the scooby and brought a clio 1.4 but just cant cope with how slow it is more so on the motorway where you but your foot down and nothing even in the passat it gave you that power you needed

my mapped vrs is more fun than my scooby was as standard.

An Octavia 4x4 can make economic sense

A "stage 1" 4x4 with remap to 200+bhp, uprated springs/shocks/coilovers, ARB's & rear droplinks 2nd hand from an R32, 312mm brakes from vrs/gti/etc 2nd from ebay

would give a car able to holds its own against all but your GT4, circa £3k all-in. imo such a 'stage 1' Octavia 4x4 would drive better than a stock S3 or R32.

Probably cheaper to insure than a S3 or R32.

You an also get estate version, if cargo space is important (only golf mk.4 base 4x4 estate model in uk iirc)

better in the wet and snow than a scooby

4x4 system is not as predicable in nature as the scooby system though - the oem haldex 4x4 system only shunts power to the rear when it detects slip.

If you where going to tune a bit further, then economics for the Octy 'fade-out'

The value of the S3 wishbones, better ABS/steering rack, better seats, etc come into play and make up for the extra cost.

i would have to disagree ive had imprezas, foresters, a3 tdiq, and driven a few s3's. the subarus are wayyyy out in front in the slippy stuff

I've driven both in the snow and ice, and my I found my Octavia coped better than my Forester.

Both car fitted with vredestein winter tyres

Haldex can react faster than a scoobies viscous diff - balances the power faster leading to better traction and easier control

Haldex works better in the wet and snow than any of the mechanical diff systems, its what it was designed to do (its the dry-road performance where it looses out).

The OP is mainly referring to performance in terms of quoted power, speed etc, so I still think the Octy 4x4 isn't the 'right' car in terms of the comparisons quoted. A remapped VRS will be far better, albeit without the 4x4. Am I biased? ... quite possibly!

Having 2 4x4 octavia turbos

1 estate with nothing more than stage 2 software and remove all the crud the engine done need

2 saloon with all the nice bits from blue haldex, coilovers, uprated brakes, better interior etc etc

Can agree with the comments snow mucher has put

Even with everything stock other than power goes well and great in bad weather

The other is a LOT better all round as you would expect

IMHO fantastic setups for the money / cost and running and a bit more special than most of the other cars at the money

Subaru impeza wagon classic running 205bhp - expensive to own / run. Had a P1 back in my youth and was a great car mind

I use the 4x4 turbo estate as my everyday family car and dont worry about it getting stolen, dented, cheap to insure / run, parts cheap to buy and as stated plenty of options to improve on the cheap. Also great at towing the race car and other silly project cars I have - new audi S3 powered VX220 turbo ;)

Also the 4x4 has a higher crash rating than the vrs due to seat airbags :p oh and sunroof

Have to say at 150bhp you could find yourself lacking some what lol

If I could be bothered would drop the k04 powered S3 setup in and go fancy seats and big brakes and KW3 suspension etc and be very rapid (375bhp) but at 230ish bhp and few nice bits makes more sense and use the other cars for my power hit :)

Still quick enough to safley overtake and have some fun

You would loose more power from the transmission but the stock gearing of the 4x4 is lower and suspect brings back to a VERY similar power setup. 4x4 will just be quicker off the line, handle putting the power down in corners better and far better in the wet / snow

Am I biased? ... quite possibly! :D

Miss my old Renault 5 turbo I put the audi TT engine in and with diff etc but since converting to mid engineed / RWD kind prefer rwd / 4wd especially when the power increases

Well all.sounding good to me and as ill be using to go up to the lakes and Scotland in in the winter snowboarding this car seem just what I'm after and I'm not over fused about hammering it in to corners just want something that got a bit of power to use and be able to cope well in snow if its anywhere close after a remap to the impreza I had which was standard apart from a exhaust ill be more than happy
