clunking/knocking sound from rear of the car

Featured Replies

Since I bought my Octavia I have noticed a slight clunking/knocking sounds coming from the rear of the car. It's more noticeable at slower speeds, especially on bumpy country roads. It's not that loud, but it's loud enough to annoy the hell out of me!

Took my car to a local garage and they have changed the "rear roll links" and that's made no difference. I had a sit in the back with someone else driving and i'm certain it's coming from the back driver side wheel. I've checked the exhaust and the spare wheel and there's nothing there to cause it.

Anyone any ideas for that it might be for when I take it back?

Cheers

swingarm bushes or control arm bushes, stick the car on axle stands and give the wheel a good wiggle in all directions to see if there is play

Thanks, will let the garage know.

Possibly coil spring, just had the same prob. Quite a high pitch metallic sound.Might try and replace them myself.

I had and now again have this. Seems to be a curse of driving on crap roads or country roads (im in the country).

Try the rear shock mounts. My N/S was totally knackered and I think a year later its gong again!!

jack it up and have a wiggle at the shock too.
