Hot Weather

Featured Replies

How do i make my Octavia cool in this hot weather, Econ on/off Auto on/off, why not just a simple A/C button.

Auto and select a temp around 19c should do the trick.

What is the difference between the econ and auto settings? Does the aircon come on when either are set?

Econ is A/C off.

So if I switch Econ on it means A/C is off, SO I put Auto on which means A/C is on, Yes ???

I understand it as with auto on all your doing is letting the climate control control the air flow and temperature, air con is always on unless you select the Econ function.

Wind the windows down?

(can't believe I just said that)

(also can't believe I'm the first on here to say it)

Andendton, you laugh at saying it, I did it. :-)

Yes

Wind the windows down ?, mine are electric

Auto controls fan speed only. You control the temperature. On the FL car you get a choice of big or little fan, so you can choose how aggressive you want the car to cool or warm itself. How nice huh?

Posh git

Windows down is cheapest up to about 30mph after that it is more economical to use AC apparently.

Not seen those ones, will have to look them up.

The major flaw is that windows open means you feel the effect. Windows up/AC on, it kinda creeps up on you

The aircon in the Octavia barely uses much fuel, i know first hand have it on all the time i can still get 400 miles from a full tank of fuel.

Man up use the bloody thing. :)

Yup I notice no difference in mpg with it off or on and I get about 440 to a tank.

AC always runs in an Octy. Even with ECO on. It needs to run to lubricate all the seals. ECO just means it runs at a low level not cooling.

I've got mine on Auto and 18C, In winter I change it to 21C that's about as much as I do with it.

I'll open the windows if the car has been sitting in the sun that starts things off quicker. I've never thought the AC in the Octy was particularly good. My old clio had better cooling.

Mine is brilliant, have at at 21 all year round

running the a/c at 20/22 most of the time. (although 16 over the last couple of days).............650 on a tank, but then again it's a diesel, and not a vRS ;)

Windows down for the first mile, then pop the A/C on auto at about 19 and shut the windows.

As above econ is A/C compressor off.

Yes

Not necessarily.

Econ button on = air con off, econ button off = air con on

Your statement is identical to the OP's to which I said yes to!? He never metioned having Econ and Auto on together :giggle:

OK I should have said yes*

*as long as econ isn't on.

But to be fair his post also confirms he knows that econ on = A/C off so I took this as a given.

Either way I think we all now know the correct sequence :whew:

Not wanting an arguement, but the OP asks if having auto on means that the aircon is on, to which you said yes it was. What i was pointing out was that just because the auto is on doesn't necessarily mean that the air con is on. That depends on the econ button. So you can use the auto setting without the air con being active, albeit for heating only rather than for cooling below ambient temperature. With the greatest of respect, you've only quoted half of what I said in my post :sun:

U seem to like arguing lol

Do you find the econ button really makes a lot of difference?

Unless it's really hot (like this week) no it doesn't make a huge difference. The Octy AC is pretty weedy imho. Mine might benefit from a re-gas but it's always been a bit crap compared to other cars.
