new car DSG noise?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Thanks to the admins for providing this community resource.

We've just bought our first Skoda, 2012 Octavia Scout TDI DSG, to replace our dear Saab 93 (weep weep).

I was away overseas when 'the wife' picked it up and got back around 1000km. I've noticed noise coming from the DSG (I think). It happens on lower DSG shifts. It also happens at throttle off and on. It's not a clunk, more a collection of 2 or three clicks that all happen at once in a group, so is somewhat clunkish. The noise it most puts me in mind of is a loose motorcycle chain, but it just happens the once, it's not continuous. It's worse when the car is cold.

There was also a single 'incident' when she was driving it home the very first time. When she got to our street which is a steep hill, and the car shifted down, a "symbol" showed up in the display, and the speedo actually went off. It hasn't happened since.

But I'm most concerned about the noise. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced similar?

kind regards * thanks for any input.

I suspect the time that the car shifted down and a symbol showed on the dash then this would have been the traction control working quite properly i.e., it changed down to 1st gear and the torque span the wheels a bit. I have no idea about the clicks. Mine is silent except for when first setting off when it sounds as if something is rubbing for the first few yards.

I'd get it checked, mine is totally silent, always has been!

Thanks TsvRS & sKUD

Driving today, I definitely don't like it. It's actually more like a very short rattle than a clunk. Taking it back to the dealer this week - it's just that we live 2 hrs away. I could also ask to take the demonstrator for a drive again, I'm sure it didn't make the noise.

No rattle or clicks from mine, silent always. No idea either, the only factor that I can think of linking those symptoms is electrics?

Hi, I had a rattle / clunk noise on my new 4x4 DSG which happened when it changed gear or when I went on and off the throttle. When I took it back to the dealer ( Rainworth Motors ) they new right away it was gear cables ? loose and hitting the heat shield and sorted it straight away

Upto now It has not happened again 5000 miles later, I do tend to go on a lot of unmade roads and Forest tracks.

Gomezz, thankyou very much for your report. It gave me hope and I took it to the dealership yesterday and relayed your experience. The tech had a listen and look around. He said he tightened up a few things and reseated a couple of heatshields but couldn't see anything specific. Anyway the noise has now GONE, so I'm really happy about that, and especially that it wasn't a faulty DSG.

Thanks again and I hope this helps someone else too.

regards
