Purchase & Tuning info

Featured Replies

I am looking to get a Fabia VRS when I sell my existing car. I have some questions.

Purchase

Is traction control standard (esp)?

Local stealer says that Metalic silver or black are standard?

Where is the best place to get one, a stealer, or on line?

Has anyone sucessfully used the on line prices and got a dealer to match.

Tuning

I assume the Warranty gets invalidated if you Mod?

What is a 2nd ECU likely to cost. I would chip the replacement and keep the original to

return it to standard.

Who are the most reliable to chip?

What sort of gains will I get with a remap and filter (see below)?

How easy is the ECU to swap out if i need to get it back to standard?

Is the chip switchable so it can be turned off from the with the cruise stalks?

I have heard of people replacing the filter. Is this a plug in to an air box or something,

or is is a replacement filter and housing that goes on the end of the intake pipe.

What is the approx cost of a filter.

Is it easy to fit?

Cheers

My EVO 7 is for sale: http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75126

Traction Control is standard.

Black, Silver, Yellow, Red are currently the available colours.

I don't live in the UK so I can't say anything about where it's better to get it.

You can change the air filter (panel filter, if you remove the housing to fit a cone it messes up the ECU...unless you change the ECU, which I'm sure voids the warranty), add a strut bar, lower it at the dealer's and change you rims, but anything else and the warranty says bye bye.

Don't know the best chip supplier, chip remaps with the stock chip with an intake and filter can give you (according to Fab vRS owners stats here) about 50bhp.

Hope I helped a little.

with green filter and cupra air intake a jabba remap has seen 197bhp

To answer some of your questions

Colour - Flat colours Yellow & Red no extra cost, Silver & Black - approx

To clarify - ASR is standard, ESP is NOT, it is an option (in most countries)

asr was standard and esp not before, but NOW esp is standard, I just ordered a new one, and esp is included now on all new furby vRS's... (must have been a spec update..)

ok: I take that back! lol... just checked the book, and it doesn't come with esp... sorry :)

ASR is traction, ESP keeps the car under control when it gets out of shape (eg sideways).

Having driven both, I wouldn't pay for ESP as you'll have crashed by the time it kicks in should you find yourself in that situation, unless you're on the world's widest road.

Auto finders are doing them

@SteVRs - nope it works WAY before then - I had to use it once at speed when someone decided to pull out without indicating doing about 50ish mph, whereas I was doing motorway speed. Had to swing it round and ESP sure kicked in...

Sideways - nope, purely to do with steering the car round stuff..

Any one have any ideas about the cost of a replacement ECU?

I believe it's in the region of

The ESP should prevent slides and spins - that's what it was invented for!! Try it on a (big) empty roundabout - lose the car intentionally and it does kick in eventually - but you'd be history on an 'A' road.

I think he means chipping a car.

I haven't got a price for the Fabia vRS ECU but that for the 1.9 (ATD) engine could be

A replacement ECU might be out of the question then.
