1st 2nd gear a bit hard to go in sometimes! please help!

Featured Replies

So...

i had a problem with the gearbox that 2nd 4th and reverse where hard to select.. it was the selector rod in the gearbox...that was sorted and all gears are smooth!

BUT!

sometimes 1st is abit hard to go in and even second.. feels like the gear selector shaft not turning properly!

now.. i have a Felicia and i know there are 2 types of gear selector shaft one straight and another one with a UJ, mine is with a UJ and feels very very slopy..

you guys thing the problem is coming from here? do you think if i change to the straight one.. like this ( http://www.jorily.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=131_4_36&products_id=447 ) will solve the problem? after all.. is the link i posted the correct one for me?

please help!

it is very hard to get an answer from a distance.

especially after a gearbox repair (sorted?) which is a job with very tight tolerances

you know better how the initial problem came up, and how the gearbox job was done.

unless you jumped a cliff and landed on a rock, the gear selector shaft should be ok, no matter how much play from wear there is.

I would question the quality of gearbox overhaul.

Thanks for your reply! Its sorted too now! Was a simple fault i didnt notice.. exhaust pope was not yet sorted and somehow the mounting was.off and goin between the uj of the selector... Making it hard to select first and second only! But anways.. sorted! Thanks! The only thing i need to look into now is a vibrating gear lever.. was reading somewhere that you can buy a kit and change some parts and the vibration will go away

yes, there are such kits and there are several topics in this section about them.

it happens this repair to be on my list too.

but if you ask me, I would check underneath the car (on stands!) every joint of the gear selector shaft for excessive play.

who knows?you might find another loose screw...

then I would take out the shaft (ehem) and I would go to a friend with a lathe or a mill. if he has a steady hand, he'll make new teflon bushes + brass pins, then bob's your uncle.
