Adding external amp and sub with Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I bought a 2010 Combi 170 DSG Elegance, wich I wont be getting until end of june.

Well, in the meantime I'm on a shopping spree. I bought a 2012 Columbus and a 2012 VW bluetooth kit, Webasto with GSM module, some LEDs and a bunch of MTECH bulbs.

Reading about the standard speaker installation, I've decided to replace them with Pioneer TS-E170Ci 17cm.

I also want to add an amplifier and a subwoofer.

The easiest thing would seem to get a Blaupunkt THA 555 PnP, but it's been discontinued. And I guess I would need a 5 channel amp for this setup?

I understand that I can change the speaker-out on the HU to line-out, can anybody confirm?

And what would be the easiest way to hook up the HU to the amp?

Thanks

Recoding the columbus to the sound system option switches the speaker level outputs to line outs, then I believe you can then take the current speaker connections and feed them into the amps line input.

How about Helix PP 50 DSP ? Or if you need more power, JBL GTO5EZ. These includes automatic turn on from signal

Thank you both for your inputs. I Think it will be the JBL amp then!

And coding will be done when I also install the BT module.

Have any of you guys used FatMat? (looks like it's the same as Dynamat). I plan to give the doors a layer and the spare wheel well, where sub will be installed.

Inputs appreciated.

@zakkeri, the JBL has input for 4 speakers and a sub. Will that be a problem for the amp, since the Columbus doesn't have sub output?

Sorry about all the questions, I'm not very good at car stereo :-)

I was thinking of doing something in my last car, but didnt get round to it.

But the principle is the same and I will eventually do to my new (2nd hand) Superb II

I have a Line converter, you can splice into the speaker outputs for (rears I would suggest) and this then goes through a box of tricks and turns them into RCA's which "you can" direct to an external amp.

They only cost between £10-£15.00 from memory. Ebay or Amazon no problem.

My problem is going to be getting the power from the engine bay to the boot!!!
