Lost only key to Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi.

The missus took the grandkids to see Olympic torch parade Friday and lost the keys to house & car. :wall:

Have been told that the only way to get new key is from Skoda dealer because they have to send off for one to Germany.

Is this right.I'm not bothered if it is but the wait of between 1 and 2 weeks does.

No it's not the only way, but it is probably the easiest - albeit the most expensive one as well at around £160 per remote fully coded to the car.

IF you can get hold of the SKC (Secret Key Code) from the car (by someone with VAG Commander etc) then a s/h eBay key fitted with a new unused transponder can be coded to the car with VCDS - the total cost this way can be below £50.

Honest John in the Torygraph motoring mentioned this website: http://www.carkeyhelp.co.uk/ Understand they do keys from £10. If you google Honest John and search for replacement keys you will find discussion on subject. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.

If the secret key code was obtained do you then take a blank key blade and have it cut to code?.

Assuming you have another key, just take a new blade to someone with a laser key cutter to get it cut from your other key, once the blade is cut the transponder can be coded to the car (you need to code ALL the keys you have at the same time - any key not coded at the same time will no longer start the car).
