Soundproofing help please

Featured Replies

I'd like a nice install for my vRS Fabia, but want to sort the soundproofing out first. What products have you got experience of and where have you used them?

Cheers in advance!

Vinyl tile insulation - I've lathered both front doors in the stuff, so now there's no plastic meeting metal door anywhere. :D Only problem is I still need to pad out around the crossover in the door pocket which vibrates, and also the OEM grill alone sort of resonates on heavy bass in the doors....

What I think I'll end up doing is when I get the pair of JL 12w3s running, I'l turn the bass RIGHT down in the front (separate amp which is nice) and just use the JLs for bass.

Only problem with that is the SQ drops. You really need bass coming from all angles for a proper surround effect. :( Might just have to find "that level" when bass in the front is adequate and the vibration noises are not audible.

I thought bass was none directional

Contact these guys & talk to Steve http://www.noisekiller.co.uk/

All you will need to know, he did my Impreza years ago & did a stunning job

I have added that site to the ICE Section of our Links directory for future reference.

I've used a couple of layers of flashing tape and some other stuff from bodyshopwarehouse.

Only done the drivers door so far and its rock solid.

I've done the wheel well, boot floor and boot lid with Dynamat Xtreme, and it does dull the noise from the back a lot. I've got enough to do the front doors, but don't know how to get through to the outerskin.

Got in touch via their contact page on the site, came back pretty quickly with a response. Pricing seems decent too, and they can do a mobile fitting too (at a cost of course, but that's no surprise).

Main reasons for considering it are reduce the noise level whilst being stuck in traffic jams (not too bad when warm, audible when cold) a little more, as well as improving the chances of someone being able to hear me properly when I'm on the handsfree :D - I can hear what the other party says easily, but the other way around it picks up a bit too much road noise.

I had a fully de cated scoob & the drone was horrendous on long journeys. as I said in my previous post Steve did a stunning job on it. Its interesting how little material is required in some places if you know what you are doing, saves the car ending up weighing a ton. also some of the cheaper stuff retains moisture which could lead to corrosion problems in the future

I've decided to go for it - will get it fitted mobile as I work in Bracknell and there is no chance of me driving up North that far just to get this done.. For a start Mrs would find out a little too early (before the work is completed ;)

Spoke with Steve and he's gonna try and get summit sorted for next week :)

Once that's all in place I'll give the car the DiamondBrite treat by the dealer and that should be it for a while :D - just thought it made sense to first get it soundproofed, then valeted/cleaned/protected

Give Steve my regards

Stuart, He will remember me as the guy with the Silver STi 3 Wagon in Winchester

How much does it cost?

160 for kit, 110 for mobile fitting (dunno if that is varied by travel distance). Both inc VAT, Furby vRS (probably the same for all Fabia hatches, I'd email them to make sure)

No probs - there are some pics on their site as I doubt I can hang around whilst Steve's fitting it, unfortunately :(
