Hot external temperature = vacuum issue?

Featured Replies

Those who can cast their minds back a couple of years will remember that I went though a lot of hassle with the turbo on the car.

In the end I took it off and cleaned it all up, but even at the time I wasn't convinced it was just a jammed up turbo. In the back of my mind I was thinking there was a vacuum related issued which was causing the vanes not to move full travel , and thus eventually it jammed up.

Anyway to cut a long short short, the car has been ok for the last 18+months until it has been warm outside for the last week or so and now it is being a right pain again. Overboosts on uphills (the traditional problem), and even when gently pulling away/off a roundabout. I have to cycle the ignition several times in each of my 60 mile trips to/from work at the moment, but it makes overtakes risky again. Typical just as Mr Farmer is back out on the roads :-(

Therefore I am wondering if anyone else has experienced a vacuum related issue when the outside temperatures have increased? When I cleaned the turbo up, I renewed all the vacuum hoses as some of those has seen better days. I also did an elephant mod and blanked off the EGR.

I'll stick vag-com on it tomorrow and check to see what is logged, but the other day it was just the pretty standard position deviation / overboost code.

Thanks,

Matt
