2.0t coil packs FTW :D

Featured Replies

Finally got my coil packs delivered on Friday (took ages to resolve an issue on egay) fitted last night and went for a quick run to test there were no issues.

The car popped a hose on Thursday so i spent Thursday evening stripping from the turbo to the IC for a clean up and refit. After refitting I was getting a misfire on load, probably due to the trims being out from having a long term boost leak? Drive it gentle and all ok but still glad to get the coil packs on. Checked all the codes etc before clearing to force trim readjustment and changed plug gaps to 0.030.

I did read a lot of threads before opting to try these and I must say I am impressed. LPG is more prone to misfires if things are not spot on and I had found that hitachi bolt down coil packs with bkr7e plugs at 0.028 were ok but needed regapping once a month if driven hard.

The gap is now bigger and even when inducing heavy load (high gear at 65 and stomp on the gas) the car just growls and pulls instead of getting to 20 psi and throwing a fit like it has been lately.

Very happy bunny but it is early days so I will let you know how I get on :D

Just to add, the seal on the packs can be moved down so it locates in the rocker cover well. They also fit to the plug electrode firmly so they won't rattle loose easily

Good stuff

Fitted without adapters, or have you made some ?

snow muncher i got 4 ;-) with your name on ;-)

Just pushed in with the rubber seal moved down a bit. They fit really snug on the plug unlike the hitachi ones which make contact with a spring. I don't think I am going to have any issue with them popping out. I may come up with something ghetto to hold them though :D not paying out £50 for the ECS ones

UPDATE:

well its been a month and still no need for hold downs (pikey or otherwise) :D

car still pulling really well and no hint of a missfire, I usually have to check plug gaps monthly-ish to keep it running smooth.

have also had some super economy runs as well. 210 mile round trip indicated 80 on the way and 65 on the way back gave an overall on the trip of 43mpg :D double that for the LPG so 86mpg :p
