Front passenger door very stiff

Featured Replies

I've finally decided I need to sort out my stiff passengers door.

It's always been a little stiff, but a squirt of grease used to help it for a while. I probably haven't greased it for a few years now, and it's progressively got worse to the point that passengers are moaning about my stiffy!

I inspected the hinges last night and blasted every joint/pivot with loads of lithium grease, but it didn't loosen it up. The door hasn't dropped, and it's not loose (no play when i lift the door up and down when open). I can see nothing externally wrong with it. I've ruled out the spring, as it's still really stiff when not on the spring.

The top hinge is so basic I can't see it being that. I soaked the cams with grease, and it doesn't look like it's them. So I'm thinking it's the main lower door pin. Anyone had similar issues?

I'm assuming that there's a load of corrosion inside the pin and I'm not getting to it with the grease. Anyone know if I can remove the pin to clean/grease it?

It's one of those small annoying issues. I want to try and avoid replacing the whole lower hinge assembly if I can.....

my rh door a tad stiff too :(

According to the haynes manual, you remove the two torx screws from the lower hinge and the door lifts off. You should be able to remove the hinge and take it apart then.

I haven't looked myself, so am only going on what the book says. :D

Had a quick look in ETKA, it doesnt seem to show any detail of the internals
