front disc

Featured Replies

Im looking to replace my front brake discs but ive found there are 2 sizes 1 says overall height is 48m/m and the other says 50m/m does anyone know where I take this measurement from

Overall front disc diameter is either 288mm or 312mm, not sure where you take your numbers from.

312mm for sure on anything V6, measure disc diameter if you are not sure.

Be very careful when ordering new disks for the B5.5. The 288 mm disks are made in two versions with differing offsets.

Order by chassis number - the ECP website has it correctly listed. Don't use cheap parts and remember that the inner pads are handed although they look the same - there is a rotation arrow on the anti-rattle spring on the back of each inner pad.

thanks for that I presume that is European Car Parts They advertise Pagid do you know if these are any good

European Car Parts. Pagid disks and pads are fine - avoid "Eicher" - Indian rubbish.

I have EBC discs and pads on the front - very happy. Have Brembo discs and EBC pads on the rear - very happy.

The height is the height of the "top hat" and disk thickness - ie total height - which is infact also the offset.

EBC brakes all the way...

Edit: I don't know what car you have, but if it's a 2002 - 2004 you need disc height = 46,5mm -> 47mm (EBC is always 47mm). If the car is a 2005 -> 2006 height = 50mm. V6 engines always use 312mm discs.

One thing to watch out for with EBC is that they keep changing pad materials, causing confusion and encouraging misseling. when Yellow pads came out, they were great, now we have Yellow and Yellow R and these are 2 different materials, and of course, other than vague statements from the PR department, not much detailed info on differences between them (I am most interested in coefficient of friction vs temperature). They're not helping themselves.

I have original Yellows still on the car, soon to be replaced with the "R" spec Yellows, we'll see if these are same/better/worse.

I do not like EBC greens, because over time the pad cracks, happened to total of 6 pads before I stopped using them. Otherwise they are good, and lower price than the Yellows.
