3" downpipe Recommendations

Featured Replies

I'm looking to start upgrading my exhaust system and to start off I'm going to do it in sections and the down pipe is my starting point

Anyone recommend any 3" down pipe to buy or should i get a custom built one?

And has anyone any experience in the difference between a Custom exhaust system and a manufactured one? (Miltek)

cheap ebay decat pipe very cheap and as good as the £200+ pipes

no need to spend big here

Agree with the above. Mines been perfect for a year now. You MAY need to do some adjustment to the heat sheild above the steering rack tho. Mine just touched it when pulling off causing it to rattle :). 10 min job.

Isn't it a ball ache having to remove the decay every year for MOT though?

depends if you can take it on and off yourself but if u find that abit of a pain a sports cat would be the better answer but be prepared to pay a fair bit for it unless u can find a deal where you get a turbo back exhaust which i belive consists of the sports cat and exhaust i think that is miltek that did this offer the last time i looked which i would of gotten but due to funds went with a custom exhaust as it worked out cheapest

Just go to MIJ performance in Walsall. Only down the road from you and do a GREAT job. Custom exhaust made to YOUR requirements.

I just purchased this http://bit.ly/M1zfF7 any one have one? Will this eliminate my cat and will it fit on with my standard back box without much hassle?

Is it a straight swap can this be fitted to the standard back box? Until i get a new one as I havnt worked up the funds for that yet?

Yeah there a straight fit in place of cat

I have one of those fitted.

As I have a performance system it did not fit mine straight on. I welded a straight section and that then fitted inside the performance system. They do look short to even fit onto a std system, but could be wrong.

Pic of it fitted to manifold( a tight fit to get to nuts( i lagged mine)

Did not need any extra lambda sensor extensions mine was ok. as you can turn the 2 peice section around to get a better fit.

Good idea lagging the pipe Mark  , when I go to a 3" d/pipe i intend to do the same.

'Frost' do a lagging kit + clips.

So will it just slide on over my standard pipe? And sorry for my ignorance but what is lagging the pipe? This my first performance car and this is my first performance upgrade so I don't know exactly what I'm doing but I plan to do it all myself.

I am not convinced it will go over a std exhaust, but as stated not 100% sure as mine was fitted over a performance exhaust which is thicker and needed modifying. To me they seem a little too short to line up to a std exhaust. Lagging the pipe is wrapping it with heat resistant banding. Stops a lot of heat escaping and around areas of the car you don't want to go. As the exhaust contributes to most heat in engine bay, keeping exhaust cool is better for turbo charged car as the cooler you keep engine bay and the induction the more efficent they will run, and to maximum boost.

Thanks bowders

Where would one get some of this heat resistant bands and for what kinda price?

Thanks Bowders Just emailed him there to see if he ships to Ireland.

Will I get any lights on the dash with the new down pipe and decat?
