Bulb out warning light

Featured Replies

Everytime I start the car the above light comes on, if I turn the lights on it goes out. After physically checking no bulbs are out .......

I do have a HID kit and LED sidelights fitted, with the controller coded to accommodate, but these have been installed for over 18 months! Any ideas?

I'd try putting the original non-LED sidelights back in and see if that cures it.

There have been plenty of LED sidelight threads where members have fitted the same type of LED sidelights with some reporting the bulb out warning and others not.

I know LED's are supposed to last much longer than normal bulbs but I've noticed the opposite on aftermarket retrofit LED's - they seem to degrade over time. Are your LED sidelights still as bright as they've always been?

As the sidelights are easy to change I'd be trying this as a first attempt...

....if you do swap them back change them one at a time!

TBH and IMO I would swap the led back with the 501 (W5W) and check then unplug the .250 male spades from your xenon ballast from the original bulb connector and reconnect a H7 (no need to fit it into the reflector for a test!).

Have you turned every light possible on and checked - I believe that the mirror puddle lamps are on canbus as are number plate lamps!

Steve

On the FL the Puddle lights are controlled, door lights, footwell lights.

It will not show error on dash but will show up on the VCDS.

VCDS does have the footwell light monitoring you can turn off.

You need VCDS to read error.

Puddle lights are not canbus controlled. I've had non canbus friendly LEDs in the puddles on my 54 plate for months now without any errors being flagged up, and have recently put a similar set in the puddles of the 08 plate, once again not errors showing. The number plate lights are, however, canbus controlled and I am using canbus friendly bulbs in both cars without the bulb failure light coming on.

What I can't solve is why the 54 plate happily runs canbus friendly W5W in the front sidelights without any errors, but the 08 plate shows the failure light with the same bulbs.

Mike, have you narrowed it down to the LED W5W's then?

Quite a few people also don't realise that all MkII Octavia's (hatch and estate) have four tail (night) lights.

The two W5W's that link the dual function brake tail and fog/tail lights quite often fail - just look at any Octavia taxi, I've yet to see one with all four tail lights working!

You can see them dangling here:

The 54 plate is running the same bulbs, and also LEDs in the sidelights, and on this car there are no errors or bulb failure warnings even with LED sidelights installed.

Mike

Change these bulbs to other car to see.

Mike

On the FL model you have an option to change the voltage for parking lights

I have reduced mine from 13.5v to the lowest 12.3v ( i think)

I did this to reduce the led taillights from dectane as they are cristal type.

Do you have the option to do this on the car that shows the error

Problem solved, one of the LED's was dying, replaced both with a set I got for swmbo's Golf from HID's Direct.
