Black 2012 Octavia TSI in N Yorkshire - who is the masked stranger?

Featured Replies

Saturday 2nd June 2012 travelling down A1 south around Boroughbridge turning at 8.30 ish am and a Black 2012 Skoda Octavia TSI hatch passed me as if I'm standing still (in my 3.0 Audi A4 TDI 233 bhp.)

As I'm about to move to a new Octavia 1.8 TSI with DSG in July this year, I wonder if this masked stranger is a member of this forum. In fairness he was moving so fast I couldn't see if he was masked, if he was a he or whatever it was.

Seriously if he's out there I'd welcome some user comments on a car that can outpace a 233bhp Audi A4 with apparently little effort.

Best wishes

Dont think you need any comments, the driver said everything they needed to say when they passed you.

I'm Spartacus !!!

Guess that answers the old which is faster post - Diesel or Petrol!

Seriously though, if you were dawdling along keeping to the speed limit, anything could have passed you as though you were standing still. I doubt very much that a "standard" vrs of any flavour would leave 3.0 tdi for dead especially on a road like the A1.

How do you know it was a petrol?

There is no way to tell externally apart from the noise of the engine which would have been drowned out by the wind / tyre noise.

Was he travelling with his bonnet up too!? :giggle:

Said TSI on rear as he disappeared from view.

Ah, for some reason I thought you'd said it was a vRS, my bad

Were you on or around the speed limit when he passed you?

At 70-80mph for any car to come flying past must mean it is exceeding a ton.

What is the max speed of the 1.8 TSi?

What is the max speed of the 1.8 TSi?

139mph for the Hatchback.

That's a fair lick of speed then, if it came past at near maximum velocity I can understand why someone might be taken aback!

Tis a fast car.

IMHO No Skoda in standard body style comes close, possibly its nearly up there with the both VRS`s.... so if subtlety is your thing then it is a great car
