hi guys, i have a small querry, im thinking of changing my air filter to either the PIPERCROSS Induction kit or the PIPERCROSS Carbon Cold Air Induction kit, my question is do i need to remap the ecu if the air filter needs to be changed ?

also someone was suggesting the k&n typhoon airfilter. any suggestions ?

No you don't need a remap. CAIs don't really give any power gain but they do make the air intake and DV louder.

lots of people have the cheap Ebay CAIs fitted (usually with a better filter added) and get the same results as the expensive ones.

Yes as the maf sensor will determine how much air it sees.

i have the 1.8 tsi face lift.

im really inclined towards the carbonio with pipercross, but again i have my doubt regarding the remap, as of now im not looking for the remap.

which begs the question why change the intake?

The intake will introduce nothing at all other than noise ...... (I'm not judging that or saying that's a bad thing, just that it the fact. No extra power, torque or 'top end' .... sometimes it will lower power a bit. So only got for the air intake change if your sole objective is that you want a 'sportier' sound.

If you want increased performance in your car, get a remap.

Example from my car......I have a a Full CAI and a high flow Remus back box........also had replaced the Ceramic cat with a high flow 200cell cat!...and done various other things....see my sig below...

Now basically I was getting loads more air into the engine and loads more out easily as alot of the restrictions in the OEM airbox and exhaust system were removed! The emmisions results were very good..........BUT the ecu could not cope and kept throwing up the same fault code.........long story short..............my car has two lambda sensors and the gases comming out of engine hit first sensor......then pass through two cats then hit the second sensor.......the second sensor was NOT seeing the OEM programmed % cleaning scrub of the gases so threw the fault code up....even though the emmsions were very low and the timing etc was all spot on!!!! So ripped the 200cell cat of and "strangled" the engine by refitting the OEM cat.......no more fault codes!!!!

The Engine ECU will adapt to an extent to a CAI, better oil, better fuel etc etc......and you will get maybe between 5-10% MAX improvement over the OEM.....but it will then adapt no further due to the limits of the OEM parameters in the ECU. Then a remap is required to move these parameters to make better use of the CAI etc etc......

I was going for the K & N option, then spoke to regal and bought a BMC panel filter, lovely quality, fits really well in the airbox, and cheap to! :think:

Dust can be a real problem if you leave the national highways outside of Mumbai. If dust is is part of the reason you are looking at CAIs, then I would go for a cone filter, as these perform much better than the OEM panel filter in dusty conditions.
