Threaded sump plug?

Featured Replies

I decided to service the car today, however when it came to taking the sump plug out, I *might* have been a bit of an idiot and turned it the wrong way, over tightening it.

Now it's just spinning and not coming out, or tightening up. Luckily it still seems to be holding oil!

Obviously something isn't right, I hope to god that it's threaded the bolt, and not the thread in the sump - does anyone know how much it's going to cost me to get this sorted?

Is the sump pressed steel with a boss or an alloy? If you have an alloy sump then it's most likely that you have stripped the thead in the sump. The fix for this is to have a helicoil fitted.

The big worry is that the sump plug could come out and dump the oil which will destroy the engine.

I don't know what material the sump is on a mk1 fabia vrs, Something tells me it'll be an alloy...

The plug seems pretty firmly in place, but I am rather nervous it'll come out.

Problem fixed... I'm having the sump helicoiled as I type.
