Octavia VRS sound

Featured Replies

I am new to Skoda and this 'community' having just acquired a VRS estate. Very pleased so far with the only caveat being the oft reported issues with road noise and boom from the boot whilst the Bolero stereo is rather harsh.

So I've lined out the boot (and under the rear seats) with sound sound dampening self adhesive tiles and filled with spare wheel well with an old double duvet (!) which seems to have cured that side of things quite nicely and cheaply. Next is the stereo...I've cranked the treble down to -3 like most folks seem to recommend and this reduces the worst of the pain but I wondered about replacing the speakers ? I've had it done before (in a Vectra) to good effect. Does anyone have any experience of any simple plug and play solutions ? Anyone know whether Focal Access A3 are any good and/or would fit ?

Hi and welcome aboard.

Yes, the stereos are real ear bleeders! ..... I'm a sound engineer by day and let me tell you, the frequency response of the stock speakers is like nothing I have ever seen. Skoda clearly tried to 'enhance' the sound by placing a great big unnatural EQ boost between 3-6kHz. The problem is that most recordings are mastered to be heavy in that area anyway, hence the OTT end result with this stereo.

Changing speakers is on my list too, an easy job that I've done on almost every car I've owned. The speaker wiring is actually pretty decent so it's just a case of getting similar size speakers and replacing.

WELCOME!
