Intake manifold fault

Featured Replies

I thought I had been doing a little too well and now at nearly 80,000km my first fault . . . or not as it happens - I suddenly have four faults which goes to prove that ignorance is bliss sometimes. The most important one and subject of the post is the engine fault but doing a faultscan revealed some more.

The Telephone one I can probably safely clear as it occurred whilst I was recoding the bluetooth module this weekend.

The CAN gateway one seems to have occurred when the car was last serviced which is irksome.

The driver-side wiper motor will need sorting out (is that UK driver side BTW?). Then the engine fault occurred on start-up yesterday after a fast trip back from the New Forest, I didn't notice anything wrong with the performance en route - quite the opposite actually - it was going like a dream. Any ideas on what it is?

Well the dealer seemed to recognize the fault immediately so I guess it must be fairly common. I will post up what happens in case anyone else gets the same.

It is a tumble flap motor fault, no big deal it has to occur a few times to put your engine check light on, it is to help idling, you can reset it with vagcom in seconds happened 3 times to me

Thanks for the info, very useful.. I will have it checked anyway as it is still under warranty and there is the wiper motor fault to sort out too. Now you mention it the idle has been a bit hit and miss recently. Started hunting a bit sometimes, hmm - I will know what to look out for next time.

Yeah, mine had this too a few months back.  Dealer did some sort of reset/re-boot and it went away only to come back again.  No arguments from them however - they replaced the whole intake manifold under warranty.  If you do some googling on that code its also not entirely uncommon on other vag products with the same engine.

Hope you get it sorted.

This isn't 'swirl flap' related then?

Every time I see an inlet manifold thread I shudder. My previous car suffered a swirl flap failure which was subsequently ingested by the engine causing an awful lot of damage.

These are referred to as tumble flaps and aid low speed cylinder filling and help produce torque.

You can perform basic settings with VCDS but if it keeps coming back you probably need a new flap motor.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but is just the motor a replaceable part or is it new inlet manifold time?

I had this and it needed a whole new inlet (comes with sensors)

I think I paid just shy of £500 in total

parts are

06J 998 907 B - Repair Kit - Qty 4 £21.00
06J 133 201 AS - Manifold - Qty 1 £282.69

The main issue I had was MIL on and revs would rise from idle once engine was up to running temp
