Fabia VRS Increase In Oil Use.....

Featured Replies

Hello!

Had my Furby VRS Mk1 from new :sun: ...and I love her more now than when I picked her up on that special day....! (in 2004).

Over the past few months I have noticed increase oil use. Its only about half to three quarters a coffee mug full of oil use per tank, but thats quite a bit more than usual for her. I have noticed a plume of blue smoke on start up (but goes straight after) and occasional plume of blue smoke with sudden high speed 'pull aways' at junctions.

The car has covered 107,000 and is all original (turbo etc). Car runs perfectly and gives about 45mpg combined. Im doing a lot of short cold trips these days, which I know is bad :(

Any ideas anyone?

Bump,

Instead of starting a new topic....

I'm also experiencing a similar issue :(

Don't have an ECS Magnetic sump plug by any chance?

Had one and noticed it was leaking, a quick Google and quite a few have problems with them leaking.

You don't know its leaking as the under tray catches it, explained why I had some oil consumption at the time.

Another thing just to rule it out just check the egr valve they leak oil as the seal goes. Remove engine cover and its on the left at the back you will see a small hole if the seal has failed you will see a small trail of oil coming out of it so worth a look. The hole is on the front of the egr valve.

My car has always smoked on start up and smokes when flooring it and lifting off full throttle but dosnt worry me to much.

]Hope that heps il post a pic if you arnt sure what im on about!

Turbo leaking oil past the seals into the exhaust? It's probably on its way out it it's done 107k miles.

Ah. Just changed the oil etc in mine and noticed oil on the front of the egr valve casting. Doesnt appear to be burning much oil at all compared to what the manual says etc but I do get occasionally a puff on start up on the mornings.

How do you go about changing this seal? Is it a new valve unit, new seal, a diy task etc etc?

Most of them have a little puff at start up, that's all I get from mine pretty much :)

Just keep an eye on it to make sure consumption doesn't suddenly increase drastically, if it does then that's cause for concern!

Ive had my vrs now since dec 11 and done 13k in it. I serviced her on boxing day and put quantum longlife 5w30 oil in and i had that smoke on start up but the engine never used ant oil and didnt need topping up.

Just serviced after 12k (bad iknow) and put quantum platinum 10w40 in and get no smoke or very little. Not sure if she is using any tho.

Do these use oil then?

Is it down to the wsy you drive them too?

even for a tightfist like me it's not worth the trouble either replace or a "wingnut stealth mod"

Ill have a look at the oil but it seems spot on. I think its 10w40 ive used.

Tps said it was good for the fabia.

I only used the 5w30 before as it was for my octavia vrs and wss all i had. It does go to vw specs needed ne way.

No its a new egr valve! mines been like it for ages! Its 5w40 in the fabia vrs id be very careful putting anything else in it for this reason.

First there use to be an issue with cam wear problems as the oil been the wrong velocity when warm etc.It might not be on the fabia but worth searching on google.

Also the injectors are run by the camshaft via tappet arms and the springs on the injectors of quite stiff = more wear stress on the cams.

It might not apply to this engine but i will look now

Edit that it is quantum platinum 5w40.
