Newbie Question on Odometers and Regulators

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My car (Skoda Felicia 1.3 X Reg) finally ground to a halt a week ago when the alternator failed to charge the battery (brushes worn down) and I essentially drove it in to the ground. I had to do a fair amount of driving that weekend so a kindly soul super-charged the battery and I drove another couple of hundred miles before I got home and decided I should maybe give the car a rest. I'm fairly certain the odometer was working throughout as I was paranoid about how much driving I was doing on borrowed time.

Since then I have replaced the regulator and topped up coolant. That is all. On replacing the regulator I took the car for a drive to see how it was doing, the battery warning light switched off immediately much to my delight and I drove for about 20 mins. It was only on the way back home that I realised the odometer wasn't working and the trip switch had reset to 0000.

Any ideas if the problem is linked, completely separate and whether I need to do anything about it.

Thanks a lot,

H

They are totally unrelated - the speedo, odometer and trip meter are entirely mechanical on the Felicia.

new nick, same habits.

totally seperate as the speedo is cable operated, its one of the tiny plastic cogs inside the speedo that has worn away, not uncommon and fiddly to fix so a used dash is usually the cure.

is the main odometer still working? they usually do while the trip part doesn't.
