Is 95,000 miles too high?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Looking at trading up from our MK1 to a lovely MK2 Superb

Quite a few about, really want a 1.9tdi SE but at 3 years old they all seem to be 95,000-100,000 miles for the budget we have.

Can anyone tell me if that should be of concern or can we still expect years of service from it? Bodywork and interior seems very clean for the miles.

Any advice gratefully received

Or the other option is a 08-58 X Type 2.2D SE, but I really want to stick with Skoda

95K is a drop in the ocean, plenty of life left in it. The 1.9 engine is a very good and tough engine.

95,000 is just run in

I wouldn't go with the Jag. My mum had a 55 plate estate and it was forever going back to the dealers for electrical problems. It could just have been a one off lemon though

Must admit, I feel more comfortable about taking a Superb on with 95.000 than I do taking an X Type on with the 53,000 it has.

Anything I should look out for with the car? It will be my first diesel so how much smoke should I see?

Cheers guys

good robust engine, I have had 2 cars with this engine 1 95k 1 120k ..no problems with either except dual mass flywheel on latter replaced under guarantee

just make sure the oil and filter had been changed as per service schedule and that the timing belt, guides and water pump have been changed recently

both were running well when parted with.

a friend of mine got 350k out of his before it died, but I have to say he did not look after it

I had a 1.9TDI Octavia Mk1 that had 240K on the clock after 8 years, which was still running fine.

The turbo on mine had started making a whistling noise, so it would have needed replacing sooner or later.

Mines 170k and just needing its first clutch replacement DMF issue, uses no oil or coolant, coolant still pink no rusty water etc. I want 400k out of this 5 years of motoring for me. Local taxis here used to get 380-420k before they became uneconomical to fix.

Just starting to loosen up at 100k. Would have the superb over the jag anyday.

Jaguar x type came 16th, it is the XF that was 2nd??

Plus we don't know if it was petrol/diesel - I'm not sure about 2.2, but 2.0 diesel comes from Mondeo and it is old, good 2.0 TDCi with its pros and cons :giggle:

My last Superb, a 1.9Tdi 'S', covered almost 95,000 miles in 33 months and never missed a beat. The engine was remapped at 3,000 miles and this transformed the driving experience, whilst still enabling an average of 57mpg.

Another bonus is the lack of a DPF on non-Greenline 1.9Tdi engined Superbs.
