Scared! new 1.6 CR TDI coolant/temp warning light on

Featured Replies

So, traded in the trusty SUPERb Greenline yesterday for a Monte Carlo 105 TDI. This morning the coolant/temp warning light came on. I checked levels (it didn't extuinguish, so no engine running) and it was on min. Topped up and drove it a bit and it went out.

Wife's just returned from work and reported it was on again for first 20 mins of driving and then extinguished.

Having lost 2 water pumps in the SUPERb, am I paranoid that the light could be pointing to another problem in my day old, 400 mile car?

Sorry to be no help and i hope someone is along that knows what your car is and has.

Have you read the Owners Manual?

Was it not just a Coolant Light that shows untill the Engine coolant is up to running temp, then it extinguishes as on so many other vehicles?

I assume there is no Temp guage on your vehicle.

Do not overfill the coolant!

Did it actually require coolant when you checked and before you put in more,

and was it water that you added

or was it the correct Coolant as recommended G13 (G12 +)?

Just read the manual.

Was it the 'blue' not up to running temp light,

or the 'red',

comes on for a few seconds when ignition is switched on.

and lights up or flashes while driving if the coolant temp is too high or coolant level is too low.

If it was too low coolant, then its on to the Dealer and see what went wrong at the PDI and why they never spotted this.

PD, probably nothing more than an airlock that triggered the sensors to tell you there was a problem. It's not too uncommon for an undetected airlock in a new motor to do this. Sometimes air just won't come out and at PDI it won't be detected either if everything looks fine. The cars are prepared at the factory regarding this and a level check is carried out at PDI only. As long as you have topped up with the correct coolant and not just water, then you will be fine. Or...it could be a faulty sensor or a leak, but doubt it. keep checking it and report it to the dealer as soon as possible.

if the light was blue ! this is normal it will extinguish once engine heats up

Argh! Read the manual (it was in the car and my wife "read" it earlier. It is the blue light, not up to temp, but the level was low this morning (not overly worried and topped up with coolant).

Now feeling mildly stoopid...d'oh!

Still, nice to know I have another light to pay attention to!
