Anyone ever gone back to a Fabia after selling up?

Featured Replies

Hi, i recently sold the Fabia vRS and bought a Leon FR, I've had it a few months now but, well I'm just struggling to like it as much as I did the Fabia, I've ended up on auto trader a few times looking at going back to one. The Leon is probably a better car than the Fabia in many many ways but it just doesnt have much of a character to it, its just a bit soulless. Has anyone ever gone back to one after trading in or is it just me?

Matt

I've just gone back to one after about 4 or 5 years. Inbetween I've had

Fabia TDi

Honda CRV petrol

Zafira Petrol

Rover 75 Diesel (chipped) lovely car but not practical enough.

Zafira diesel

Honda CRV diesel

Hyundai i20 (bought with only 15 miles on the clock.

As you can tell I like to change my cars on a regular basis. Always looking in autotrader etc.Looking in autotrader I happened to see a red 55 plate VRS with only 17,500 miles on the clock. I liked the last one I had so sold the Hyundai and bought it. Had it for a couple of months now and don't regret trading back down to an older car at all. Some things are obviously better on a new car but overall the VRS is a better car if a little smaller internally. The hatch is alot smaller on the VRS.

Still love the engine. Not as smooth as a modern diesel but it just picks up so well. I've driven lots of other manufacturers diesels but none have the instant pickup of the 1.9 VW engine. This VRS does not pickup in 5th and 6th as well as the 04 plate I had but it might have the newer gearbox as I know this was changed at some point and has different ratios.

Wow... first time I've heard someone call another car "soulless" and then say "I want another Mk1 Fabia vRS" in the same sentence

I sold my silver vrs, had a mk 1 tt then a mk5 gttdi and now im back in another mk1 fabia vrs, i love it

My mate had a Fabia vRS, went to a Civic type R (2010 vintage iirc) which he liked but realised a short while is wasnt for him. He though it might have been the diesel drive he missed so got a diesel Pro `ceed and mapped it for more poke. I think he is now thinking it was the fabia he misses not just the drive. Balance of economy & fun factor go far to adding to its attraction I think.

Well I had a Seat Ibiza FR PD 130 a couple of years ago which I Ioved but had to give up due to losing my job at the time. The VAG 1.9 units are excellent and I couldn't wait to get back to driving a vehicle fitted with this engine, I also prefer the Fabia to the Ibiza but can't put my finger on the exact reason.

3 times and counting now lol....... just looking round for another fabia at the minute too i went back to the vrs after a mk2 octy vrs and a skyline and an impreza been running round in a suzuki swift for the last 5 years which honestly is the best car ive ever owned

lol dunno what keeps bringing me back to fabia vrs tho. I do dissagree tho babs they are far from souless

I had an '03 Red Fabia vRS (one of the first available) ex dealers car, sold it to get my two previous loves at the same time, a Primera GT and a Honda VFR 800i, loved them both but the Honda tried to kill me and wrote itself off in the process.

I was going to buy another bike but my wife and children became very upset at this, mainly due to how close the call had been with the Honda, so I bought an Astra SXi (Mk5) which was ok but, there was just something missing.

After a year of putting up with it I started looking at the Fabia vRS again after figuring out this was what I needed, best move I ever made, I honestly can't think of anything else that puts the smile on my face like that car.

The only thing I would change for would be a newer or SE model, of course they would have to be the diesel model too, can't see by them.

 (sad old git!)

Still drive like I stole it! :giggle:

  • 1 month later...

Had a black VRS sold that and bought a Passat. Now back in a VRS SE as I missed my first!

No way would I ever touch a Fabia again, I am not and never have been a speed merchant, so have reverted to a Vauxhall 1.6 Astra, sheer luxury after the Fabia jam jar.

Eh!! Astra luxury. Maybe if you mean the latest model. Before that it could not touch a fabia vrs for quality, comfort, materials, suspension etc. I've had every model over the last 30 years so speak from experiance.

I lost mine in an accident. It was my first car and I really hatted it at first due to its lack of grunt. With time, I could not trade it for anything. I had the opportunity to replace it with Subaru Impreza 2.0R, as fast as a car equipped with a v6, and pass on it to my brother who just got his licence but I refused. It had too many memories and I could not just give it up! However, everything comes to an end and I had to sell it with its broken nose to someone who fixed it and sold it to another country although I told him to call me whenever he wanted to sell it! It took me a couple of years to be independent financially and I hunted down a very clean one, to this country standards. The one I found is identical to my youth fabia but not the same colour; the old one was in beautiful silver and this one is in hateful red! Moreover, it makes a different sound when it is hungry for petrol :p
