Megane Sport R26 f1 230

Featured Replies

A skoda forum probably isn't the best place to be posting this! But anyway, really draw to one of these at the moment, I think they're certainly a marmite car with their fat arse etc. but the f1 230 edition came with an LSD, a stage 1 will take them into 250+bhp territory and hopefully it'll handle very nicely.

Prices vary massively from £6,250-£10,000!

So has anyone here had experience of one?

I've got my silly hat on and want a loud angry petrol while I'm still young with no ties!

They are a bit of a performance bargain IMO, if you don't mind driving a Renault.

Cabin/interior build quality will be cr4p but they are nippy and handle quite well for such a boxy looking car.

I owned a 225 cup in 2007, I thought it was a good car, lots of space and the boot was very big

Drive wise, it went very well!! It was a step up from my Clio 182 cup

There is a buying guide on the Renaultsport Megane Mk1 in this months CAR magazine (June).

Also EVO magazine reckoned they were fairly good, especially the one with the LSD, here is a buying guide on EVO's website:

I know someone who has one. It's great to drive, but he's experienced all the usual Renault/French elecrical issues. The windows have a mind of their own and the central locking decides if it's going to work depending on the day, month or which way the wind is blowing.

Having said that, the Mk1 Octavia isn't without it's electrical foibles either, but we still love them. I've always lusted after an R26R in Grey with the red wheels. Having seen a few in the flesh, they still make me want one. The new batch of Meganes though have no appeal for some reason.

If you get a good one, you'd be very happy. If you can, look into the history as much as you can, call or write to previous owners, look through receipts and invoices and call people up to ask if they have any info. I did all this on my new Honda and you'd be amazed at what kind of info you can find out with a bit of detective work.
