Console bushes ?

Featured Replies

Are they hard to replace

Depends what you want to replace them with. Standard bushes are nylon and slip into the console with little effort. Uprated 'cupra' bushes are difficult to insert into the consle without a homemade tool. You need a ratchet strap to reinsert the wishbone into the new bush.

Clean the hole out well grease bush up n press it in with a vice thats all i do at work n they go in no problem

I've helped fit seat ones to my mother car (a PD100) and fitted Powerflex ones to my own vRS.

Seat Bushes

Pro - Cheaper than powerflex (around £20 for a pair).

Con - While the bush might be easy to fit the wishbone isn't. It too ages for me and my father. The problem is that you need to insert the wishbone level (as if it's all completed). You have a few degree's to play with but not much so getting it past the front bush mount is very hard.

Power Flex Bushes

Con - Cost nearly £50 for a set of two

Pro - By far the easiest of bushes to fit. For the extra cost it saved us half a days work on the drive. The bushes come in a two part style. The purple section is inserted as a normal bush but then the black section slotted in place (read the full instruction as you need to lube certain areas). Once in you can place the wishbone any way and move it into position wich makes lining up the front bush bolt easier.

Both seem to do the job well but if you are doing the job your self and don't want to get any specialist tools to refit the bush then I'd suggest the powerflex ones.

Hope this helps.

Yes they are removable, and can be re-greased with copper grease

Check the ARB saddle bracket bushes, or the ARB drop-links

You can get a set of wishbones for around £5-60 with ball joints attached. their straight forward enough to replace but as mentioned the console bushes might get you some trouble - and slipting the ball joint if you don't have the correct tool.

If you are doing the bushes for the ARB i'd also suggest the Powerflex ones - their around £25ish.

I also have a squeeking noise when going over speed bumps (even at 5 mph). As I've changed the console bushes, ARB bushes, ball joints and wishbones the only thing left are either the drop links or perhaps the suspession shock/mounts.

Straight forward unless your 18mm bolt on the front of the wishbone has welded to the console. Then it's a pain. Fairly common problem reading the forums

I paid £50.30 delivered for new wishbones, front bushes, drop links and ball joints as I would rather know i'll not need to do them again. Drop links are very cheap and easy to change and need only the most basic of tools, they're first thing I'd check if getting knocking over uneven ground/bumps when driving in a straight line.

Doing all of the above on both sides with Powerflex bushes took an hour for the wishbones/bushes and another 30-40 minutes for the drop links, this was done on the drive.
