VRS CR DSG Loss of Power (dealer can't find fault)

Featured Replies

I Have had my Octavia VRS CR 170 TDI for 6 months now and last Thursday while accelerating to overtake a slow moving HGV on the motorway the engine stuttered.

Since then it seems to have lost significant power. I used to only have to lightly touch the accelerator to get decent acceleration (DSG box would wouldnt need to kick down). Now I have to push the pedal almost to the floor so that the gearbox kicks down one or two gears just to make decent progress.

There was no Check Engine Light so I took it down to my Local Dealer (Prestons in Chelmsford). They ran diagnostics but couldn't find any fault.

The Turbo spool up noise seems more noticeable and It feels like its down 40hp. Told the Garage all this but they still said "Computer Says No"

You know its bad when my wife says "The Car Definately Feels Slower"

Has any one experience something similar?

I had a DPF issue on the last car which chucked up an engine fault light but this is different. Possibly a boost pipe come adrift (had that too).

Find another garage and quick. If you can notice it has slowed down then IT HAS! This is typical "well the computer says everything is OK, no fault found" yet the car is sitting there a smoking ruin!

I was thinking boost pipe come adrift as well because you can hear the turbo boosting up but power doesnt materialise.

Its almost like a slipping clutch kind of feeling.

When your boost hose came lose did it throw up an engine check light?

Another option is to phone Skoda Assistance - just say you feel its gone into some sort of limp mode, but no engine lights but i don't want to risk driving it.

They are more likely to spend time diagnosing it than a dealer.

That's what I would do too! Out of sheer curiosity I would be tempted to bring it somewhere with a rolling road to test bhp etc to see what its saying (shouldnt have to but thats just me).

Ah, the joys of an old car without engine management. When the pipe slipped off my suprecharger on my G60, it was obvious that it was down on power and I had to check everything old school until I found it, cos there was no way I was gonna be getting any lights to rely on. :giggle:

Cr,s seem to be getting as much treads as pd,s lately lol
