Intercooler and pipe help

Featured Replies

Ok, time to revive this thread, Ive found this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.u...7#ht_500wt_1202 I know this will fit with only 20mm being behind the crash bar, I have found the map pipe from forge so I guess I can now find the other silicone pipework and really make up my own fitments without having to route it behind my sump etc. There is something I just dont like about the group buy cooler kit. Or am I just barking up the wrong tree as usual and should just buy the group buy kit, I really really cant afford the forge kit at all. Please help someone as I feel Im :wall:

You might well get that one to fit somehow. I think it'll be offset to the passenger side though. To avoid the aircon condenser and allow space to get the silicone pipes on. If it goes well, please try to let us know and/or take piccies of the install. I can add it to my intercoolers thread.

Cheers,

J.

Looking at that pic, there looks like there's more room for the twin pass one. It in theory looks easier to fit than the TX one.

The group buy cooler's dimensions are as follows:

690 wide

160 high

65 deep

and that fits fine

this one is as follows:

620 long so less

210 high inc fitments bit taller, (this a problem??)

65 deep same

So do we think it will fit without having to cut the crash bar????

I will defo add pics and give some feedback, sounds like I'm a Guinea pig experiment here lol

That tx intercooler will never manage 300bhp ill tell you that for free

Intercooler piping doesnt really want to be any bigger as 57mm as even a 130/150 hybrid isnt a big turbo and bigger pipework will just increase lag and negate boost pressure

So big Jase will the twin pass one ive found be ok or are the two in and pipe bores too big

No its fine aslong as you reduce it to 57 or 51mm with reducers

The forge fmic kit used 51mm pipes so you dont need to have massive pipework whatsoever :)

57mm all the way though would probably be the best bet :)

That is very good news. Thanks for the advice :) for the time being i am only going as far as the kit does. I will add more in due course. What size are the standard fabia pipes? Are they 51? Also are all pipes measured on outside diameter (OD). Thanks again

Pipes are od

Silicone is id

They are all different!

Its 51 off the turbo but the first 90 degree bend goes down to about 40mm at the smallest point

After the stock smic the plastic top pipe is 57mm and egr is 57mm so they use a variety of sized pipes

Ok thanks for that. One other thing, with a twin pass intercooler am I right in theorising that as heat rises I am better having the hot in pipe as the top one and the cold out pipe as the bottom or does that not really matter?

doesnt matter but it would be beneficial, im running that set-up on my octy with a 'flip pipe'

but for ease of install you may just decide to run the cold side off the top

Any updates on this? Your ordered anything yet? :)

Hi everyone, well I have the intercooler attached and bolted to bottom of the crash bar. My only snag so far being the fact that the cooler is too low for the bumper to comfortable fit below the cooler. It all goes together fine but you can see it bulging below. Any bright ideas as to how to get around this gratefuly received. Pics will be posted up soon. :)
