newbie mk1 vrs owner reliability issues?

Featured Replies

having bought an octavia vrs mk1,which i totally love by the way!  it an 04 plated car with 86k and full service history,i have given the car a big service when i bought it,but..

im starting to go off the car a little due to reliability of it :wall: :wall: in the 8 months ive had it it seems to be falling apart, i bought it needing new brakes, after unsiezing two calipers i fitted new drilled and grooved discs allround, ebc redstuff pads,it stops well now!

then front end knocking has made me replace the anti rollbar drop links and anti roll bar bushes, cured the knocking,

now the engine management light is on ,i have read the code and its now saying the secondary air pump has insufficent flow,so new £400 from skoda or euro car parts £100....... then the car developed two slow punctures, that turned out to be a cracked wheel, where the alloy reacted with factory lead weight  and the second was corroded badly enough inside to break the seal on the bead....to make matters worse i have had all these faults sorted car was great  again, until the exhaust has decided to rattle its brains out! ive just valeted the car today and treat the leather etc and noticed that there is rust starting on the back of the cills, underneath the headlights, underneath the boot handle(very devoloped),paint has flacked from the bottom of the front wings....

also forgot to say the headlight height adjust motor has gone on one headlight and the rear wiper motor has forgot its park position, and the motor only works sometimes....phew.

please dont get me wrong i am not twisting after all its eight years old! is this usual though???

i am not getting rid of the car or calling it ,i still love it and cannot think of a car ive been happier with!!! just a little dissapointing as i want to spend my money on upgrades :giggle: :giggle:

sounds ok, despite all these problems, she still gets you where your goin, thats reliable

true lofty, she has always started! and always been a great drive. :whew:

I think your just unlucky. I got rid of my 2001 Octavia vrs 6 months ago and bought a new fabia vrs. I had the Octavia when it was 3 years old with 40,000 miles. When i sold it it had 110,000,. During ownership it never let me down once. Passed every MOT and during the ownership i replaced front and rear discs and pads,2 new springs a breather pipe and the fusebox on the battery and a battery. I hope i get as good a service out of the fabia but i some how dont think so. I was a fool to buy smaller and if i had the choice now would have the Octavia over the fabia anyday.

Yep think you're unlucky, sounds like you found a bit of a pup there. I've had mine from new, 2002 plate, and during that time in either modded or unmodified guises it's been entirely reliable, with the exception of track day induced troubles. Though in saying that I have had to replace a headlight levelling motor like you.
