I'm really sick of my key.

Featured Replies

I've lost count of the number of times I've unlocked my car or just the boot by either sitting on my key or just crushing it in my pocket when bending down.

I know it re-locks in 30 seconds but not if you open the boot as well.

(just for the record the remote usually lives in my trouser pocket and I admit when I've climbed in my trousers there is not a lot of room left )

I really wish there was an on/off switch on the remote control.

I'm trying to find a rigid pouch or box or something to keep it in for when I sit on it. Can't think of anything yet. Anyone else had this problem?

By the way the remote operates at a hell of a distance from the car. Especially in underground car parks I find. And if you tend to play with it all the time like me this is another reason to have an on/off switch IMO

Would it make any difference if you kept the buttons either facing in or out (i.e. facing your leg, or not)?

If it really bugged you that much, could you just take out the battery and go retro by opening the door with the key? That might have implications for the immobiliser, so maybe someone with a bit more knowledge of it might be able to help?

I used to do this all the time with my current Astra, doesn't help when the car is parked so close to the house and things get stuffed in the drawer on top of the keys. Used to find many a time all the doors unlocked on a morning, the Astra doesn't re-lock itself if no doors are opened :thumbdwn:

I'm just a lot more careful with my keys now, still paranoid though and have been known to go down stairs in the middle of the night to see if it's still locked :(

My missus managed to lock her keys in the boot at the weekend . Easily done, you walk up to locked car with shopping, press boot release, load boot with keys and shopping ,slam boot shut, clunk!..... it locks automaticly .

Ever thought of wearing a kilt and popping the key in your sporran ?

I hate my Octy keyfob for this reason too! Very very annoying - Vauxhall fobs were never this sensitive.

Not had this trouble as of yet :)

Is the Octy key different to the Furby key, then 'cos I have not trouble with the key to my Fab either? I thought they were pretty much standard - I'm sure the design's the same as someone's Audi keys I saw at work...?

I know my mate at work was a bit miffed that his Audi A3 keyfob only had 2 buttons, whereas mine also has the tail-gate open button.

I've not had any problems with my Fabia key-fob and the range it works at is pretty impressive - so much so that I can unlock the car and have not reached it within 30 seconds so it relocks itself!

Chris

Does the octy re-lock after 30 seconds too?

I love my key fob! exactly the same as the audi one.Don't keep mine in my trouser pocket though.

How many of you hold your arm out at full length ,point the thing at the car and press the button ;) (I do,fool)

For ultimate impact do it next to a Merc driver :D - They pay about 2 times as much for the same thing too, Audi drivers don't get ripped off as badly :)

For the best experience, flip the key open at the same time

I stopped putting my car keys in my trouser pocket after one of my previous car keys jabbed a hole in the seam @ the bottom of the pocket, and i got stabbed in the thigh by the key. ( no blood ).

Love the flip key, but have been, a bit bothered about a coin in the pocket accidentally opening something, so still dont put key in trouser pocket.

so still dont put key in trouser pocket.

Have kept the key in my trouser pocket since day 1 of ownership (1 Sept 04). Have not had any problems at all. Nor has mywife who keeps her Golf fob (older and only two buitton) in her handbag.

After some experimentation, I can confirm the Octy does lock again after 30 seconds if you dont open the door.

This morning, however, the ring/hoop on the top of the fob has broken on one side :( Looks like I'll be swapping with the spare key.

my key goes in my pocket everytime, front pocket, back pocket, coat pocket or bag pocket. never once have i stabbed myself or unlocked/locked the car unintentionally

This reminded me of the fun that I had with my first remote locking car, a Vectra with very noisy locks.

I was parked outside the Dirty Duck in Stratford on Avon on a very warm summer evening and drinkers were out in the road. One of them was leaning on my car. Boy did he jump when the locks suddenly went thud when no one had approached the car.

I had a Clifford alarm with remote start on my Corrado. Sat outside a pub one warm summers evening I started it up from the beer garden.... poor girls infront of the car jump like hell!

Not as much as they would if I'd left it in gear though ;)

Now thats

Was it possible to start it if you had left it in gear  As you say,the sight of young ladies being scooped up by a driverless corrado would have been priceless
