Haha, very good! What's the plan there then? Another project, or a donor for some bits??

  • Author

Donor primarily, although I will try and get the engine running to at least make it seem easier to move on once I am done with it. Interior is pretty mint compared to my current one. I might do a complete swap out of the entire interior, carpets and all.

Brilliant work on the paint! wish i had the time and money to do all that!

Thankfully not too much money was needed, just an investment in wet & dry paper, polish & some pads. Time however?... Yeah, I think I spent about 60 to 80 hours on the (first) 924 alone. I think the paint on its replacement will come up easier, but I am going to try one panel, and if its as bad as the first one, I'm leaving it. Its only for spare parts anyway really!

You've done a smashing job on that Jason. It's almost like a new car well done

OK - Spent 90 minutes attacking the new one this morning. Some prospects, but I am only really using this as a practise exercise as car is likely to be scrapped or sold as spares/repairs once I am done with it. Some good initial results this morning. Paint proving easier to manage than my first one....

A look up the passenger side. Nothing I can do about damage to wing/door....

So out came the 1200 grit wet & dry, and a quick hit showed there was something good underneath,

Bonnet in much the same state, but serious rust bubbles as well! :(

Quick bit of wet sanding at the top end. Nice.

Good work. The one on Wheeler Dealers was in a similar state but after being mopped and a few hundred quid and many hours, it was back to being presentable.

Looking great mate, looking forward to seeing how this progresses, seen some very nice models of this car around, always wanted to have a go in one!

Any updates on either of these Jason? - Get the hat and gloves on...;)

I donned hat and gloves on saturday but only spent 2 hours doing some wet sanding. Need more dry weather to polish the sanding back up again. A lot of the paintwork is fecked though! :(

Bonnet side done with 1200 grit

An idea of what the rest was like, but nowhere even CLOSE to as much work as before

Bonnet finished to about as far as I could go with the sandpaper

Offside of the car looking in better shape.

The nearside despite being fairly shiny is showing some serious scars!

Top work here, looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

More pics on saturday as forecast initially has it as a vaguely warm, dry day. Perfect for a spot of machine polishing.

Sadly the above car has been resigned to donor only, and I have all the carpet out to go in my car, eventually.

As an aside, my main car is now back on the road, and plan to use it over the summer a bit. Took it up to Coventry for a 924OC national meet and got to see lots of other 924s, which gave me a good idea of what mine is missing....

Parked with two other red nice ones. In front of some old Russian helicopter.

Hind D I believe :) l

I had one of these ten years ago, it should be galvanised which helps at MOT time. There's a loom which is routed under the manifold, it can give problems so is worth changing.

Loved mine, quite quick, very balanced -a joy and the only Porsche I could afford/ would risk!! Mine went to a good home to finance another expensive hobby, speedboats. Stopped that too now -paying airlines to travel!

Hope you enjoy it, I'll keep an eye on the thread.

Well, bit of an update on this.  The one pictured 4 posts above is already stripped and scrapped.  Provided quite a lot of good spare parts.

Anyway, my car has gone in for some professional attention and looking forward to getting her back!
