getting cruise control added?

Featured Replies

hello all,

im looking to get a used Fabia VRS but want cruise conrol.

finding one with cruise control fitted is limiting my options and wondered if it is possible to get cruise control fitted to a car?

any ideas how much it would cost.

the car is likely to be about 5-6 years old at least.

also is it risky getting one that has been re-mapped?

thanks for any info!

coiner.

Cruise is one of the easier options. I had mine fitted by a member for around £160, a year or two after buying the car.

Generally, prices range from £160ish to £200ish.

I find myself suggesting that you buy a standard car, then get it remapped, possibly the same time as getting cruise. Main issue with a remap is basically the clutch. Too much torque and you can toast it unles syou're careful. Clutch replacements on a TDI aren't cheap.

That said, I'm on my original clutch at nearly 80K miles and it's been mapped since 20K (2007).

thanks for the info J.

getting cruise control fitted does seem quite reasonable.

do re-maps generally improve fuel economy or are they simply for better performance?

i am a bit of a novice, as you can probably tell!

Some people says a remap improves mpg, some say it doesn't.

I've had a remap and I cannot tell the difference.

You control the mpg by the weight of your foot.

Just go for a remap because it's fuuuuuunnnn!!

The actual remap doesn't improve MPG. What can help improve MPG is that you are getting more power out of your car so up to speed quicker/lighter acceleration needed to get up to speed etc.

thanks, appreciate the info.

why don't skoda do these kind of remaps as standard? is it due to emissions targets?

can anyone recommend a place to get cruise control fitted in the york, leeds, or hull area for a mk1 vrs?

does the retro fitted cruise control have the thing where you can change the speed up or down slightly with the stork.

skoda didn't want the remaps as standard as im sure they didn't want the fabia to compete with the octy vrs, Similar power but better economy

The "retro-fitted" cruise control is exactly the same as the OEM fitted version - yes you can change up and down with it but I find it easier to go up by pressing the accelerator then resetting (rather than sliding the button which does it more jerkily) and easier to go down by disengaging then resetting (rather than holding the end button in). Details in the downloadable manual. Generally OK though I'd prefer wheel mounted buttons - however two big advantages with it compared to the office Prius I drive regularly are that you can leave it on all the time (the Prius has to be turned on at every start) and it holds the speed after a stop (the Prius needs resetting).

Note not all cars can be retro-fitted - a friend of mine had an early September 2004 "just pre-facelift" car and it was converted back to standard after the person on this forum who fits them found it wouldn't work - others will have to give the detailed explanation.

As above. You will have to check what comfort control module CCM you have. Sure there's a thread somewhere which ones work and which doesn't. There is one that doesn't and 2 that do.
