Check deadlock message?

Featured Replies

Mine (2011 fl diesel) doesn't do it but has retrofitted maxi dot clocks now. I used to get check safe lock or whatever it was on the old clocks.

There seems to be confusion over the CHECK DEADLOCK message on later cars without maxidot display, and whether the doors are really locked.

If your doors lock automatically (default) soon after starting off, all the doors will be locked to stop people outside from opening the doors at traffic lights etc. When you stop the engine the deadlock message will appear to remind you that the doors are still locked against outsiders.

There then three ways of defeating this.

1) remove the key and they will unlock,

or 2) press the lock/unlock button by the 12V socket near the gear change,

or 3) pull any interior handle TWICE to open that door.

The last method is handy when you are dropping someone at the kerb and the engine is still running (once they know).

Is seems to be a confusing message they have chosen as it relates not to the deadlock but to a crime prevention system that does not deadlock the doors, only stops them being opened from the outside.

You get the message anyhow, auto lock enabled or not.

It's a standard warning to notify the driver the car has deadlocks and as these operate as default if anyone is in the vehicle they will not be able to get out if you lock it.
