Hi folks.

My Fabia has recently started sounding almost like it's pinking when I'm on the power. Typically it happens at around 40-55mph and is a kind of "teckteckteckteck" noise that increases with speed. It will come and go randomly.

I've just got a VAG-COM lead and I'm planning on attacking the car tomorrow for a whole host of other little niggles it's developed over the 25,0000 miles I've done it it (brake light switch, expansion tank sensor, faulty electric windows and mirrors, ARB bushes). Any suggestions for what it could be would be very gratefully received.

is it this type of noise

if it is, its a cam belt guide or tensioner issue. as i had the same problem

Could be, but not sure as I only ever hear it while I'm driving so have road and wind noise muffling it somewhat.

That i don't know.

The MPI 8v is indeed a chain driven engine. The chain is very basic with no tensioner so it is possible this has slackended slightly and rattling.

If it is the chain then you will hear it at idle and will be coming from the bottom of the engine drivers side.

It's not that then. It only starts when I'm accelerating (3rd, 4th and 5th gears) between 35mph and 55mph. Intermittently too!

If it's pinking is there a known cause or am I best to get my VAGCOM onto it?
