Colour coding bump strips

Featured Replies

My bump strips have seen better days, and despite spraying some back to black stuff on, it doesn't look too great...

Just wondering if anyone has colour coded their bump strips? or how much you reckon it would cost to get a body shop to do it?

i did my front bumper the other day. in the process of de stripping my doors and will do rear bump strip too.. looks loads better i think...

I'm interested in doing this too Muppje!

Gee-man that bumper looks spot on - nice job! how does the texture look close up after the strips are painted? Or did you smooth them down before hand??

Did you use a spray can or compressor & spray gun?

they are still bumpy after 5 coats out of a rattle can! i just keyed it enough for the prima, then painted it. i mite give them another few coats untill i smooth the bumper totally.

I think it will look awsome stripless and smooth! :)

the only way to lose the texture completely is to flat it slightly with something like 180grit, then a 320grit, then a few heavy coats of high build primer (from a gun not aerosol), then copious amounts of time wet flatting with 800grit, then basecoat and clear

only then will the texture be gone, and u can achieve the same finish as the rest of the paint on the car

this is how ive done my trims, quite time consuming, but worth it to do it right

What have you done to the headlight? Looks really dark - does it affect light output that much?

Looks poop IMHO

With them left black it breaks the car up nice for me, I have a black one so its not as stand out but the lighter colourd cars for me need the black strips.

TBH Gee, they are not too bad tho as they are not an identical match. there is some contrast there which could work?

yeh mate, thats why im leaving them bumpy.. i have seen a silver one with them smooth and it looked sharrt. I like a little contrast as it compliments the car and brings it a bit more up to date. i like it how it is as it does not match the glossy paint work so its sorta like how its meant to be with the whole contrast thing. I likey.

yeh it does alot bud as the head lights not there! lol The bumper is only resting on the car as the front ends in bits.. (see build thread)
