Magnets on Fuel Line Hoses

Featured Replies

I have been trying to find out what the whistling noise is on my vRS Fabia Tdi model (it's not the Turbo, as mine does the opposite of everyone else's car, it only whistles at tick-over and for about 10 seconds after being turned off <typical>), and I keep finding these cable tied on magnets around the fuel lines. They don't attract as per normal, these repel, what's that all about?

As far as I can see all they do is eat the hoses or eat anything that they rub against. I've never seen or heard of magnets being used to help fuel distribution or flow so a very polite WTF is that all about?

Sorry no piccys, my camera is dead.

bin them, total utter waste of time

I did mean to ask the question, keep or bin? but like a total (rhymes with prat) forgot, doh!

Cheers mate!

if it whistles when you turn off the engine then i think its something to do with the black box on top of inner wing on drivers side think some one had same prob just do a search in fabia section oh yeh and bin them

The only likely utility for a magnet on an engine is on the oil filter or sump pan, to help attract tiny metal filings, and prevent them from circulating the engine. Even then, chances are they don't help.

The magnets on the fuel line is a complete joke though. They do nothing whatsoever for fuel economy. If they did, the manufacturer of the vehicle would have put them there.

Ah!, so that's what they're meant to do :giggle: Cheers!

Thanks I'll give it a try, my search for whistling only uncovered Turbo related issues.

Tape them to a stick. Great for retrieving the screw you've dropped onto the undershield.

waste not want not--I like that :-)

aren't they for removing the limescale in the diesel

Stick them to your fridge.

They align the molecules in the fuel and make it burn more efficiently!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since when is fuel magnetic?

Since when is fuel magnetic?

It's not, this is the advertising blurb for these magnets. There is a bit of science to back up the claim though whether there is any significant advantage is highly unlikely and poo hooed by many sources.

However, what does work are the magnets on water pipes for preventing scale which operate in a similar manner.
