Tow bar on fabia vrs?

Featured Replies

:D The towing eye is to pull it onto a recovery truck or out of a ditch, not to tow anything with :D Quality

One on the rear too?

It won't fit as you'd have to cut bumper plus in case of an accident you wouldn't be insured because they aren't suitable for vrs

  • Just spoke to skoda coventry and they are not aware of this issue and said they have had a company fit tow bars to all fabia including the vrs

  • Skoda have never heard you cant i dont see it being a problem towing my tiny stand up jetski :s

Yes, thats what we're talking about.......?

Thought Steve was referring to the removable front eye.

So tow something in reverse? Hummmm, maybe Steve can confirm that the police have driven passed and deemed it ok? :D confused now.....

Either way, both towing eyes are fitted for the reasons stated. I was under the impression it wasn't legal to tow with a rope anyway

Yeah I know my bad, thought Steve was on about being towed, not towing.

Well to be quite honest, I thought they were there to get towed or be towed if you had broken down/crashed etc. Didn't realise they were solely there to be pulled on to a recovery truck

Drag it off the road yeah, towing for any length of time not so much

A towing eye is used solely for vehicle recovery out of a situation, e.g. out of a ditch be it back or forwards. Either way you cannot legally use a tow bar on a Fabia vRS. I wouldn't be surprised that is because of the different bumper and lowered suspension meaning Skoda didn't think it was worth paying to get a car submitted for type approval when the number of people who would get one would be too low.

Could you get it scanned and attach here please? I'll compare it to mine.

No response - I've now checked my manual and it's clearly covering all models and all European countries (in effect - I realise there may be exceptions to this statement).

The crucial words are:

"The trailer and drawbar load information on the type plate of the towing device are merely test data for the towing device The data relating to your vehicle, which is often less than this test data, can be found in your vehicle registration documents."

... so if those say zero or are blank then you can't tow.

Simple conclusion. .. if it aint in the log book it ain't legal. .. yey job done.

As for copper. Some dont know the technical data for all vehicles. Some do ... I've had coppers drive past me while ive haf bulbs out. Does that make it legal to drive around with bulbs out?

Same argument about hids lol

You have to declare tow bars on the vehicle. So ring your insurance and act daft..

"How much more would I have to pay if I fitted a towbar on my fabia "

See what they say. End of the day. If your insured your insured

Get a MkI 1.9TDi, remap and fit a tow bar, job done

Just seen this.

Is this something police would be interested in and would they really know the VRS isn't type approved.

Didn't see this had 3 pages. Before I posted.

I'm taking the chance towing until I decide what car to buy my wife.
