Mother, where do I start ??

Featured Replies

My PC is on its last legs, had it 5 years with no probs. It has an old micro star motherboard with an intel III 500mhz pentium processor and a 16 BIT sub system with a 2gb hard drive

I am happy with the tower, cd , dvd cdrw drives, but would like to update both the motherboard and hard drive .

You'll need to upgrade the PSU, because the old one won't be able to power a more modern system and the mobo connectors will have changed. So you might as well get a new case while you're at it...and then the NEC 3510 is a 16x dual layer DVD/CD burner, it only costs around ~

Novatech or Ebuyer will have these.

Am I right in saying if I add a CD Rom and a HDD with XP on it, then I could have an Athlon 3500 from Novatech for a shade over

dunno what SATA even means?!:o Rather than put in an old HDD, I might get a slightly more modern one.

Oh, and now you have a fast PC, join the folding team! ;) Follow the link in my sig. Its dead easy to do, and with that PC you'd do well.

I know the S stands for serial and it's the way the data is transmitted through two small cables rather than a ribbon cable ....makes it a lot faster and it was quite cheap ...the one I got is here

also put in an extra 512mb ram so that brought it up to 1024MB

Just got to get around to connecting up the Zip, floppy and dvd r/rw drives and putting the rest of the software on

it's sat here with me using it also two other computers are going through it to the internet and the two printers by wireless network....it doesn't slow down like the old one did when they used the printer :D
