Decat pipe

Featured Replies

This is the one i fitted to my car, along with a 200 cell cat. No problems , but i did get an exhaust fitter to fit it. Also will advise to heat wrap it , as it helps with the underbonnet heat. At £50 it's a steal ( steel ) :giggle: . Without a map you should find the turbo spools up a bit quicker.

Yep I'll be wrapping it - not sure what with though - used loads of different products in the past.

The plan is to live map it at shark - waiting to renew insurance to get a better price on a mapped motor.

Spool up and throttle response is good already on the tsi - sounds daft but all I want is an extra 300rpm top end of rev range to make the engine feel more 'Motorsport' if you know what I mean. May not manage it but that's the aim.

Then remap the Dsg at the same time to change at the best rpm opposed to over reving and falling out of the torque curve.

You won't need an extra 300rpm at the top end, a remap will make that kind of redundant. The only real way to extend the top end rpm is with new cams.

Regarding the wrap , i have used the normal wrap , went through the pain of soaking it , letting it dry out until it's just damp , then wrapping it , waiting for it to dry then use the protective spray and then wait for that to dry before fitting the downpipe... it's a long old slog. With my skoda i used a molten lava impregnated heat wrap. Yeah i know it sounds like ...well a load of rubbish , but after using it ....cannot recommend it enough. It's seems more expensive in the begining , but not having to soak or spray it or anything like that , is a saving. So far it seems to work no excessive heat from the downpipe and last time i looked the wrap is still in good condition.

Great price, i;ve heard good things about the downpipe they sell tempted my self by it.

Yeah it's false economy using the cheap wrap - takes ages! Likewise worth every penny for pucker stainless ties

picked one up myself the other day for 62 quid brand new on ebay (they auction one one off every once in a while and couldnt believe i had it for that cheap). Gonna fit it next week so is it worth wrapping and anyone got a link to what they have used and how far down the pipe have u wrapped?

i need to keep my eye on ebay a bit more, the only decats i can find are silly money :(

any tips on getting a cheap one?

search on golf mk5 or fsi downpipe and keep an eye out for the auction ones. show season now so will be plenty looking for them but last 5 ive seen go for under 100 quid

one just now at £102 you can tell its show season, i'll wait till after it and pick one up, should only be £300 max thats downpipe, map and fitting of pipe and thats me onto stage 2 :)

wow,thanks for the heads up.

im glad i didnt splash out a kidney on a milltek one

no worries and ul both pick one up soon enough. worth looking if the auction is finishing during working hours or late at night as will go cheaper and also if theres something on (like footy or bank holiday) as people forget about bidding. Im giving all my secrets away lol.

With forced induction cams make little gain - its the 'envelope' of efficiency of the turbo which is the driving force (hence ko4 produces more power higher revs when bolted onto a ko3)

I'm hoping with the ihi being more efficient the gains in egt and fuelling I can get a bit more out of the upper envelope.

Fingers crossed - if not not much money spent.

OK , i thought you wanted an extra 300rpm at the top end , that's why i mentioned cams.

As someone who has been there and done that, you will be pleased to hear that you will see the 300rpm gain you are looking for (in that it will make power for longer in the rev range) on the other hand, you realise you will need a clutch soon :-p
