Faulty boot light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

In my Fabia Mk1 hatchback the boot (luggage compartment) light doesn't work. I have replaced the bulb, and also replaced the whole unit with one from Skoda. No difference.

I had a look at the wiring/fuse diagrams and as far as I could tell it is on the same circuit as the glove box light - which does work. Therefore presumably the fuse isn't blown.

What may be the cause? The remote locking for the boot all works fine and I can't see any obvious wiring issues!

Any help appreciated!

Cheers,

Oli

It will be like mine the switch which operates the light will be corroded on the elec contacts it's by the boot catch. I've not got round to sorting it but I'm sure there is a guide on here somewhere about it

Thanks for your reply, Brian!

By boot catch do you mean on the door itself or on the sill?

By the sill boot catch I have a rubber stopper, and if I remove the trim there is the motor and the cable. All seem to be okay but I couldn't identify any sort of boot light switch.

In the door I haven't braved taking off the trim, and the sealed orange locking mechanism seems to be okay...

Where do I need to look??

I think it's something to do with the bit on the sill it works as the popper for opening the boot with the key fob. But also as a switch for the boot light some how. I've not looked properly myself so only guessing

The switch is part of the orange unit in the tailgate itself. Mine has this same problem but I can usually activate the lamp by using a screwdriver to alternately 'lock' then the boot release to 'unlock' the mechanism a few times ( with the hatch open). This then leads to the light working for a while!

Only lasting solution is to replace the orange part!!

Thanks everyone! That seems a bit OCD for a boot light so I will probably do as you say Alan - a fiddle and a bit of WD and hope it lasts for a while!

Cheers!
