Price of cambelt change & waterpump

Featured Replies

Hi all can anyone tell me the price they paid for a cambelt change and then price of waterpump change ?

5 August 2011 - cambelt replaced including water pump - Skoda dealer

Labour - £176 discounted to £151.99 (not sure why)

038 198 119A Repair Kit - £100.00

045 121 011HX Water Pump - £34.91

038 903 137AA Ribbed V-belt - £19.67

Environmental disposal charge - £2.00

Coolant (3) - £9.24

Total = £317.81 + VAT = £381.37

HOWEVER I'd negotiated a £150 discount when buying the car 12 months previously, and Skoda sent me £100 of parts vouchers, so the final bill was only £131.37...

Sweet lol

I paid around £280 all in about 2 months ago at a trusted independent garage in Birmingham which I thought was a fair price. That was cambelt , water pump and coolant change on my 04 fabia vrs.

Kirk

D M Keith are doing cambelt and tensioners for £299 , although they will not change the water pump unless you specify you want it changing.

Mine's being done as i type. £258 all-in

Is this at main dealer or independent?

Also, what is the importance of having the water pump changed at the same time, as many people on here seem to mention it, but I have never changed the pump on previous cars?

Thanks

Some dealers advise it - others don't. In fact with my 2004vRS the dealer didn't advise it but when my 2007vRS was done he did!

Something to do with plastic impellers? I should have asked for the removed part to be handed over - I usually do with such replacement parts, but forgot to ask.

It was the 1.8T`s that had plastic impeller issues not so much the PD`s afaik.

I paid £300 all in at Unit 18.

Changing the water pump should be a 'belt 'n braces' item. Same as if your water pump fails and you replace that, you change the cam belt too.

The 'cam belt change' should include belt, water pump, tensioners and really auxiliary belt too (£9 and it needs to come off)

But yes, that was from an independent. He also changed brake & clutch fluid. Total bill £312
