Coming over to 'the dark side'...

Featured Replies

Evening all!

Currently drive a RenaultSport Clio 182, and it's a great fun little car...however, I'm now getting to a point where I wanna be putting my money into things other than working through a never-ending 'to fix' list, expensive tax and insurance! Priorities and all that... ;)

Anyway, I'd discounted diesel cars initially after having a Corsa CDTi that had turbo problems, and friends diesels going similar ways...however, I'm now starting to come round to VAG diesels, particularly of the vRS variety after seeing you guys at the Spring Performance Action Day at Castle Combe. A Fabia vRS in black with FSH and at a reputable local VW specialist dealer has popped up on my radar for 3,995. The downside is it's done 92,000 miles, but the price *seems* right. Any newbie hints on if mileage is really an issue/things to look at?!

it's only just run in:)

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome along, good luck with the purchase

That's what I like to hear ;)

Thanks for the welcome guys. Must admit, from my browsing so far it seems to be one of the best communities I've joined up for!

Ive said it many a time and im sure a few are bored of it but i can say from experience that if regularly serviced they will run for ages. I know of an alhambra with a 1.9 tdi that was in the family that we sold on with over 400k on it and believe it or not a taxi firm bought it because it was so mechanically sound.

Hello there and welcome along. I was a confirmed petrol head all my life up until test driving a diesel vRS. I'm not a confirmed diesel head yet but I'm getting there

Yeah, the consensus seems to be that they will run forever if you look after them! To be honest I think mileage is a bit of an old hang-up (generally) - as long as a modern cars been well cared for no reason why it can't keep going on and on...I even know of Renaultsport Clios that have on to 140k and beyond!

Regarding being a diesel head, ha, I'm not sure I'll ever be one of those, but I'm starting to appreciate them in their own right. ;)

After a bit of time with a fab vrs mk1 im sure you will be a diesel head. We had a 182 for a brief spell and it was fun but our mapped up vrs is far more poweful now. Its the torque that does it. Aggressive pulling power puts u in ur seat, just cant help but grin lol

its a good forum :) welcome
