Just a quick update, we've had an increase in people replying to the PM notification emails.

This is troubling for two reasons:

1. The reply never gets read.

2. The sender might get frustrated.

As such the pm notifications are going to appear slightly differently.

I've added the less than subtle reminder further up the email, sorry to those who do read / know.

It was this or remove the text, that's such a disservice to the 80% who don't reply blindly.

Thanks.

lol what spoon's have been hitting reply to the emails? Confess now I demand it :giggle:

I'll be editing All of the notification email texts again as still happening.

I did it today :( Realised about 10 seconds later and then did it properly. I think it will always happen occasionally. Can you change the 'Reply-To:' so that it goes to a non-existant address and gets bounced?

Not sure if it may cause issues.

I could but dont want to break stuff that may need the forum to have a working reply. I'm guessing this is why Colin has a working email address as the sender.

Email content updated.

Some may have also noted the subject text of notifications has been changed, with subscriptions and PM's showing their titles and the site name included to aid finding them in your inbox.

But there seems to be a glitch where every now and again the text is missing and you simply see "". Will ask Colin upon his return to look at the cause.

Colin, can we change the reply address to DONOTREPLY@ and set this to bounce replies with a "you're an ejit" message?

Was going to change in the backend but worried something might break....

I've never understood this. The email is simply a notification that you have a PM waiting - I'd have thought that was pretty obvious. And therefore that you need to go and read the PM, and then reply to that if necessary! I know I'm preaching to the converted in this particular thread ;)

I'd spotted the change in text on the email - now I know why.

Another option would just be to tell the member there's a PM waiting for them, but not tell them any text of the message? Then they'd be less likely to try and reply by email to it?!

This last options is one that I'll move to.

That said I expect it to be a shock and inconceivably troublesome for some.

It has a subtle advantage that any spam users that get in, if they send pm's, we can just delete and nobody has or would see the spam / links (risk).

Very true Colin. I must say I prefer the way it is at the moment - but then again I know not to try and reply by email ;)

It's ok, I do it myself sometimes :) That's a laugh when I see I have new mail on the other account... like christmas, only it's easter.

Even staff are at it now!

You just can't get the staff these days can you?
