Spacing

Featured Replies

Feel free to give me the div of the century award. But if I space my back wheels 9.5mm will I need new bolts? Longer ones I mean. If so, how long?

Yes, 9.5mm longer.

Nice reply matt

You'd probably get away with them being only 9mm or so! :giggle:

Do tell how you came up with the figure 9.5mm - it's a very exact statement...

That's what it said on the packaging. 9.5mm lol. Also. I've spaced my 2 front wheels 5mm. And now when I go above 60 with throttle on the steering wheel shakes? Any suggestions? I need to buy the longer bolts sometime this week. Is it safe to space steels?

Sorry - didn't realise you'd already bought spacers.

On the front you could test whether it's related to the spacers or just coincidently by removing them and seeing whether it's still there. If it is it sounded like a balance weight may have come off? If it goes, it's clearly related to the spacers altering the basic geometry or meaning that the wheels aren't seating correctly; i.e. the wheels not perfectly centred on the hub - check out http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=775998&d=0&nmt=

"It is important however, when buying a spacer, to buy a spacer that fits the hub of your wheel. This means getting hub centric spacers which are 5x100, for sale on eBay all the time."

Thanks that's a great help. Unfortunately I have no idea about this sort of stuff so already bought some from hellfords :(. They are not hubcentric and I'm guessing that's why the steering wheel started shaking :(. Oh well I'll buy some next month I suppose.

Don't think you'll find anything hubcentric on stuff below 10mm. . I could be wrong?. .

Couldn't you try some spigot rings on the spacer to centre it up properly while fitting. .

Try 'Well Spaced Out'

Basically imagine the Uni spacers, once fitted if they don't line up correctly then they sink off balance to the wheel in say the form of an egg shape, this makes one part of the wheel heavier than all the others.

Hope you understand that :)

Course you can, all it really means is that you need to buy spacer with a centre bore of 57.1mm so they are centre on the disc when you fit them..
