Key Re-Sync

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a key which has suddenly stopped unlocking / locking the car by remote - putting the key in the lock works fine, and car starts without issue.

Second key still functions remotely

I have tried all sorts of things (push unlock while other key is in ignition etc etc) all with no luck. I have VCDS but dont have the nerve to do the adaption on Cent Conv - as im afarid the keys will stop working all together.

Can anyone help?

thanks

(Car is 2007 Octy Elegance Estate 1.9)

Are you sure it doesn't just need a new battery?

Sorry - i changed the battery and same issue

Don't want to be rude, but could the key's battery be in the wrong way up?

  • 4 months later...

I have the same issue as this, one key fob not working for remote lock/unlock, have:

changed the battery (led in fob comes on when button pressed so the battery is the right way up)

attempted to re-sync to the car by

* turning on the ignition with the other key

* put the drivers window down

* put the non-working key in the drivers door,

* do manual lock / unlock (leave key in door)

* press the "lock" button on the fob (once for key 1, twice for key 2. etc up to key 4) - apparently something should beep or lights flash ... nothing happens...

If I get a new (or used) keytop from ebay 1K0 959 753 G9, should I be able to sync it to the car using the procedure above - or do I need to take it to a dealer?

If that does work, what happens if I sync the replacement fob as key 1 when the working key was key 1 ... do I then need to sync the other key as key 2?

if you have vcds then you should re do the adaption process

Last time I bought a key from the dealer for the price they charged I made them code it as well! I guess if you buy a new key they may code it for free or charge you a small fortune. If you already have VCDS ask someone on here who also has to show you the ropes. We all gotta start somewhere!!

So this needs VCDS or dealer visit?

No one responded to the last post...

Against normal practice I had a look in the book that came with the car and it says

If the vehicle cannot be unlocked by actuating the remote control system then it is

possible that the code in the key and the control unit in the vehicle are no longer

synchronised. This can occur when the buttons on the radio-operated key are

actuated a number of times outside of the operative range of the equipment or the

battery on the remote control was replaced.

This means it is necessary to synchronise the code as follows:

• Press any button on the remote control.

• Pressing of the button means that the door will unlock with the key within 1

minute.

Does that mean just hold the unlock button down for a minute and the car will unlock? (maybe because the key will go through it's entire cycle of possible codes)

An independent car key specialist has suggested the that the procedure using two keys (earlier in this thread) is for an older model vehicle.

you need to delete them before you can adapt them

channel 0 > test and save check the box above for 000 that will confirm no remotes

then try

channel1 enter number of remotes to be adapted, so 2 remote = 2

as soon as you save, press the open button on each remote. car indicators will flash be quick.

test them outside the car

Thanks Eddie - in the event that I cant re-add them after deleting - will the key in the lock still start / unlock the car

unlocking / locking can be done manually with key in door lock

car will start fine with key

OK, I finally sorted my problem with the key remote not working - just posting this to help others

The actual key is a 1K0 959 753 G (revealed by opening the key to slide the ignition key part away from the remote control part with the buttons on - as the key splits into two pieces, the key model number is revealed in tiny letters)

Now the 'G' key cannot be reprogrammed by one key in the ignition the other in the drivers lock method...

- apparently you need a magic VCDS box (which I don't have) or you need to take the car to a dealer for half an hour on diagnostic computer.

Now I suspected it wasn't a battery fault - the key had just packed up ... and since I was going to have to pay the dealer to try to sync the key, I bought a new top end off ebay for £22 + £2 postage so I got the key at a good price and would need just one dealer visit (& technician charge)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170899206239 (This was a new part, not a salvage ... if the link doesn't work do a search on ebay for 1K0 959 753 G)

I then took the car, both keys and the new bit to Trust Skoda, Stourbridge (very nice helpful service dept. - recommended!).

They sorted me out - the old original remote had died - the key now works with original key section and the new remote electronics section.

Hope this helps someone else with a similar problem.
